The older I get, the more I pick up on how the Mummy movies, while still a good ole fun time, just didn’t give a shit about historical accuracy. What I mean is:
1) The fight scene between Nefertiti and Anck-Su-Namun - which Universal clearly lifted off of the success of Crouching Tiger - features both women using sai. Sai is a Japanese weapon.
2) Imhotep is cursed by the Medjai with the power to bring forth the Plagues of Egypt. The Plagues are from the Book of Exodus which means the Medjay, who all worship the Egyptian pantheon, used a Hebrew curse on Imhotep. Uh…what?
3) Speaking of the Book of Exodus, Imhotep references the enslavement of the Israelites when he spared Beni. So the makers KNEW they were pulling from the Book of Exodus, but they still got the details wrong.
4) Anubis is the devil, apparently. Just because underworld = hell.
I know there’s plenty of other historically inaccurate details that I’m missing, but those are the ones that I immediately remembered.
