okay but do the beta kindergartners know Jasper’s been hanging out in the woods
I still wanna see them reunite okay
Seen plenty of good looking Amethysts in the show so far but can we get some more JASPERS!?! 😍
since Rose isn’t actually a rose quartz
I just want to know what actual rose quartzs sound like
Who’s their voice actor!!!! Is it gravely like jaspers and big amethysts???? Who knows!
As you can see I have my priorities straight
Ok but real quick back to Biggs Jasper:
We know in canon now that both amethysts and jaspers were a part of the Crystal Gem rebellion. So of course I wonder how Jasper handled that. Watching your fellow gems, gems you met from the moment you came to existence leave to the enemies side and knowing you had to fight them. Biggs sounds really likeable, imagine how hard it would be for former friends to suddenly have to be at each other’s throats.
I assume she would do it but would she hesitate ? Give me jasper revealing what it was like for her in the war, jasper learning why they would join the crystal gems, jasper understanding their motives, just Jasper please Rebecca
Rose -- or, I guess Pink Diamond -- gave up so much so that she could live freely alongside Pearl and fight for what she believed in. She always cared so much for the gems that fought alongside her, accepting those that didn’t fit in, fighting for a peaceful earth after all was said and done. I can’t fault her for wanting to be happy, and she was able to accomplish that by standing with her Pearl beside her.
But what about Jasper! You can HEAR her crying out after seeing Pink Diamond -- HER Diamond -- get “shattered”. Did Pink, or Rose, or whatever not care about all the gems she was leaving behind? Could she not have done better for the Beta gems that were made just to serve her on the planet that she ruled? I understand that Rose and Pearl loved each other, but who wants to argue that Jasper didn’t love her diamond too. Jasper, the loyal perfect quartz soldier, had to have been miserable for so many years following that tragic event, plagued by guilt and loathing at not being able to save the diamond she was made for. She stopped caring about serving the diamonds, and was driven far more by vengeance and righting this injustice.
Did Rose just not care about her and the others? She couldn’t have possibly confided in anyone else? It just seems so unfair to the gems that idolized her. I can’t claim to know how great the relationship between Pearl and Rose was compared to any others. They had a special type of trust. But it just feels so heartbreaking that Jasper, or any other gems, were never considered to be worth what Pearl was to Pink. That you can be made to serve a person and be there for them only to be betrayed in a way that leaves you feel so worthless.
But maybe this wasn’t without reason. Maybe Rose thought this was for the best, that they’d be safer and better off if they didn’t follow her into what would no doubt be a treacherous situation. She warned Pearl that this would be hard, that there’d be no going back. But I can’t help but feel bad for all the gems that she meant so much to. I feel bad knowing that all of Jasper’s hurt and anguish was caused by a lie that had warped her whole perception of the world. She didn’t deserve that.
I just hope that Steven can be to Jasper what Pink Diamond never could be: someone worth trusting.
Personal revelation about why I love Jasper under the cut
*Sigh* Okay so I just had a very long conversation about some personal issues with a family member and I came to realize, I think, why exactly I am so attached to Jasper as a character.
The idea that Pink Diamond was actually a kind gem, who loved the Earth and believed that all gems should be free to be themselves, and therefore secretly started the rebellion herself, completely falls apart when you consider Beta.
I mean, it’s a pretty weak theory to begin with. Pretty much the only reason I’ve heard for Pink Diamond being “good” is that she preserved some people for the zoo. But so? If a space alien took a hundred people out of, say, Los Angeles, and then blew up the city, with everybody else still in there, would you call the alien good because they saved a few people? Of course not. Pink Diamond might have taken a handful of humans, but she did not disagree with Homeworld’s plans for Earth.
Because if she had, she would never have had Beta created. Beta was made when Homeworld was losing. When they were so desperate for soldiers they were willing to use red sandstone to make, and use, clearly defective warriors. There is no reason for a Diamond that opposed Homeworld’s plans for Earth to create a whole new Kindergarten which would destroy the life on that section of the Earth. There is no reason for a Diamond who actually supported the Crystal Gems’ ideal of gems should be free to be whatever they want to create an entire Kindergarten full of soldiers to fight, and die, against those Crystal Gems.
Maybe because, despite loving the Earth, she also loved the other Diamonds and didn’t want to disappoint them, or make them suspicious, by appearing to give up too easily? So she made soldiers that she knew would be easily defeated. That way, she could have her cake (saving the Earth) and eat it too (remaining in good standing with the other Diamonds). Honestly, that just makes Pink Diamond incredibly cruel.
Because that would mean that Jasper, that Skinny Jasper, that Carnelian, that the other Jaspers at the zoo, and that every Beta Quartz that did not survive the war, were only made to die for her. They were made to love her, and serve her, and fight for her, and die for her. But Pink Diamond didn’t care for them. They all would have been completely expendable. Worse, their lives would have been a complete lie. They would have fought, believing wholeheartedly, that they were pleasing their Diamond by fighting well and defeating the Crystal Gems. But their actual purpose would be to die (or get poofed and bubbled) so that Pink Diamond could have it all.
And that is an incredibly cruel, awful thing. And I’ll admit, this is entirely personal, but I don’t want that to be the kind of Diamond that Jasper has so fully loved. It would be just too sad.
Pink Diamond wasn’t a secret Crystal Gem. She was a Diamond. And any attempts to make her into a secret Crystal Gem only serve to make her into the cruelest Diamond.
