After Kula’s devastating passing, I wasn’t going to get another betta. But then it happened. I walked through the fish aisle and this pretty little sass monster flared at me and chased my finger and....well....that was that. Meet Leonidas.

Bettas and duckweed?
I have 5 betta babies who I love dearly. I just recently added duckweed to their tanks for fast surface cover and for water quality reasons and it got me wondering....
Would adding duckweed to the horrible betta cups at stores help with their water quality/quality of life? This is strictly out of curiosity. But in the betta cups, the plants would be easy to control, and the fish might get a bit of water-quality cushion between water changes due to the fast growth and reproduction of the plants?
Any thoughts?
Made a quick visit to the store for fish meds, and it looks like Kula’s brother had died. Just two days later.
He looked just like Kula, only he was in better condition.
I feel awful about it...I can’t get the little guy out of my head. I’m also so thankful for little Kula’s returning health. I don’t think he’d have made it.
Kula-roo, and the snails share a 10 gallon tank
Kula is so skittish and shy it breaks my heart. He spent his first night, hiding behind the filter and stuffing his little body behind the heater. He still hasn’t worked up the courage to explore his new tank.
The new kid. Meet Kula.
After spending months in a scummy cup on a shelf at the store, I just couldn’t leave him there again. (This time I saw him, he was in bad shape from last time. The walls of his cup were covered in thick brown layer and his yellow water wasn’t enough to even flare his fins. He wasn’t even responsive, just laying on the bottom.) So he came home with me and is settling into his own heated 10 g tank.
