He's becoming Nightwing in s1. Plus, he was Robin in the beginning of NTT. Him growing up and passing along the Robin mantle is an important character moment.

It’s really, really not. 

Like, one,  he didn’t even pass on the Robin mantle. Bruce did. Well after he fired him. And Dick was pissed when he found out.

Two, there’s a reason the previous times they’ve shown this transition (in Batman: the Animated Series and Young Justice animated) it’s been off-screen, only addressed in the former as a low-impact mid-season flashback episode and in the latter...not at all. Or they do what The Batman and the Teen Titans cartoon did and leave it as a future thing. 

Him being Nightwing, defining the role, growing into his own as a hero, that’s all important character stuff. But the actual transition, it’s just...not. And doubly so if they’re going to do it in the first goddamn season. The only way the transition has any narrative impact is if you set it up first with his history as Robin and his relationship with Bruce being positive first and then going downhill and all that business. Without that, it really means nothing. It’s a complete waste of time, so why bother? 

Also, three: “it’s how it was in the source material” is really not an excuse. Comics are not TV, they work on different narrative rules, and adaptations need to make these kinds of changes.

@bettrdays:  I feel like a lot of manga readers who are talking this way in response to these characters behaving exactly how they did in the manga at this point in time are either impatient or just forgetful.  Eren acts how Eren is at this point in his character development.

Yeah I think that’s probably the case too. I forget that I go back and read things probably more than what is healthy. LOL

But yeah, I feel like the Clash arc is the one that really brings out or highlights the flaws in quite a few of the characters and then the Uprising arc starts to build off of those flaws, breaks down some of these characters more, and throws them out more developed and stronger on the other side of it. Eren is definitely one of those characters. The Uprising arc completely breaks him down.

What kind of person do you think Mikasa would be had she not lost her parents at such a young age? I was thinking back on Isayama's interview where he said that maybe Mikasa may be able to return to the girl she once was, but I wasn't sure what a Mikasa who hasn't been deeply changed by trauma would look like. If you don't mind, what are your thoughts on this?

From what we see from Mikasa as a child, she is very much just a simple girl. She helped her mother with gardening and we know she was learning embroidery. When she lived with the Yeagers, she helped Carla with cleaning and laundry, and I would assume even cooking if she wasn’t off with Eren somewhere. I’ve always viewed her as someone who, at her core, wishes to be very traditional, for lack of a better word. Someone who lives a simple, ordinary life. 

As an adult, I imagine she would still be very much the same, and wanting to have a family of her own and live peacefully with them. I still think that these are all things that Mikasa wants, but she cannot have them because the world is, well, cruel. And her devotion to Eren has lead her far away from the path of a simple life, even though at the beginning she definitely gave him some push back on the matter. I think in an ideal world for Mikasa, Eren and Armin would be there to share this peaceful life with her. 

I don’t really think that her trauma has taken away the person she’s always been at her core, it’s just forced her to become much more hardened to try and prevent herself from having to suffer more than she already has. 

Her story arc centers around losing the people that she loves and learning how to let them go and accept that loss. This became more apparent than ever to me when she thought she was going to lose Armin, and even more when we learned about Ymir’s Curse. And somehow, I think that will tie back into the idea of her returning to that peaceful life she had once before. She won’t have Eren to chase anymore, and will need to move on. She’s already shown that she is capable of doing that, no matter how painful it is.

I like to think that by the end of the story, as sad as it is that she will probably have to watch almost everyone around her die, that she won’t have to be forced to fight anymore, and that she can move on and live that peaceful life and be happy.
