Tav 13:  Sylvara Crinios

Mephistopheles tiefling city watch and nature cleric

Current status: Married to Jord Elerrathin. After defeating the elder brain, Sylvara remained in Baldur's Gate, trying to secure a voyage back toward home. Jaheira invited her to stay with her family, and she became friendly with Jord. 

Each day, she meditated at the tabernacle and then went to the docks to see if any ship could take her. Four months passed and then one day, she heard Meiliki while she was meditating. Her goddess instructed her to go to Reithwin and help Halsin in his efforts to heal the land there. She obeyed, writing Jord frequently from her new home. A few months later, she decided to restore the House of Healing.

Upon hearing the news, Jord joined her, eager to help. By the time the hospital was ready to receive both human and animal patients, they had fallen in love.

Shadowheart visited frequently and eventually became a healer at the hospital, too. She and Halsin have fallen in love and spend quite a lot of time with Jord and Sylvara. Jaheira and Minsc visit regularly, and Karlach, Astarion, Gale and even Minthara stop by from time to time. Lae'zel writes when she is on Toril. Sylvara has not seen or heard from Wyll since the epilogue.

Background: Centuries ago, a darkness descended on the druid city of Cedarspoke. Its leader Zalaznar Crinios entered into a pact with Malar. He was transformed into a treant and quickly corrupted the Circle of leaders who protected the town. 

After two decades living in darkness, the people of Cedarspoke became desperate. When their rebellions were foiled, they turned to Mephistopheles, who was eager to deliver them from the tyrant and his pawns for a price. The people of Cedarspoke paid, giving the archevil access to all of the archived in Earthome College. Still, the devil was not satisfied. 

He demanded one thing more. 

Just a small thing he said.

The 99,999th child born in Cedarspoke would be born a living reminder of their bargain.

True to his word, Mephistopheles overthrew Zalaznar. Life moved on, and then the small thing arrived. The druid elders determined that no one family deserved to be marked by the birth of the tiefling child. As a city, all of their ancestors bore responsibility for the pact. And so, they would all bear responsibility for the girl.

They named her Sylvara, hoping to draw her close to Silvanus. And for her surname, they chose that of the dread Zalaznar himself.

Throughout her childhood, Sylvara spent each season with a different family. Each one did their best to treat her as one of their own, but still, Sylvara felt as if she never quite fit anywhere. As a girl, she often walked in the forest, using the small bits of druidic magic she had been taught to heal animals and nourish saplings. 

One day, she discovered a raven with a broken wing. She took it home and nursed it to health, releasing it when it was well.Then, ravens throughout the forest began bringing her gifts. She would find buttons, bits of string, shapely leaves, sweet berries and more on the windowsill of whatever room was hers at the time. 

When she was 14, she received an extra special gift. A flower that, though plucked from its stem, never wilted. Curious about its origins, she had her current guardian cast a Find Plants spell and set off in the forest to look for it. Eventually, she came upon a glade filled with the silvery blooms. Delighted, she sprawled out among them and gazed up at the sky. 

It was then that she heard the voice of Meiliki calling to her. The Lady of the Forest had watched her during all of her travels. She saw her kindness and generosity. And most of all, she saw that Sylvara never lost hope. That was just the sort of woman who she wished to serve her. "Will you?" Meiliki asked. 

And Sylvara answered, "For all my days."

Soon, she was a novice in the small temple to the goddess. She excelled in her training, both with the healing arts and with a bow. After her final vows, it was decided she would be a strong member of the City Watch. She proudly guarded the city, spending most of her days helping people injured in minor accidents and calming wildlife that strayed too close to the fortress. It was during a night duty that she suddenly slipped into a sudden unconsciousness, only to wake on the Nautiloid.

Major in-game choices:

Didn't use tadpoles but let Astarion and Minthara do it

Didn't fully trust Dream Guardian or Emperor but was still kind to them

Convinced Rolan to stay in the Grove

Allowed Astarion to feed off of her regularly (but not during the time she was romantically involved with Wyll)

Was kind and empathetic to the tieflings

Soothed the owl bear and saved her cub

Killed Auntie Ethel in Act I and III but Mayrina died during the battle in the teahouse

Helped the myconids and the enslaved gnomes

Used the adamantine forge to make armor for herself and Lae'zel

Let Lae'zel make up her own mind about Vlaak'ith

Lifted the Shadow Curse

Killed the strange ox at the Last Light Inn

Didn't argue with Karlach about wanting to die rather than go back to Avernus

Pleaded with Shadowheart to spare Aylin

Talked Yugir and all three Thorms to death

Refused to help He Who Was

Attempted to convince Kethric and Zrell to surrender, but they refused

Took Orrin's deal to save Yenna

Refused Raphael

Killed Mummy Lord

- Took the bomb because she felt pressured but freed the gnomes and sided with Barcus

Saved Omeluum

Warned Aradin to leave Aylin alone and ended up killing him and Lorrokoan

Was forced to kill both sides on the beach in Act III

Sided with Nine Fingers against the Zhents

Rescued Florrick

Convinced Wyll to seek his freedom because she doesn't truly understand what it means to have a father and she was more concerned with his immortal soul

Encouraged Gale to seek Mystra's forgiveness in exchange for a cure

Allowed Shadowheart to make her own decision about her parents, resulting in their sacrifice 

Talked Astarion out of ascending, freed the 7000

Let Wyll make up his own mind about becoming a Grand Duke and didn't comment about his plans to hunt Mizora when he chose to become the blade (even though she didn't approve of the idea)

Freed Orpheus and allowed Karlach to become a mind flayer

OOC rules of engagement

Will multi-class as a beastmaster ranger to represent the training Meiliki clerics receive

Fight alongside a raven as soon as Find Familiar is available

Once available, must ask a druid to summon a dryad daily and sacrifice one camp supply to it as a sign of devotion

 Must wear yellow and red, the Meiliki cleric colors for summer

Must prioritize nature and be friendly to beasts

Must use a longbow or a shortbow as ranged weapon

In combat, encourage allies to work together by attacking the same target when possible

Never be motivated by treasure or loot

Once she "remembers" her bow proficiency, prioritize healing and restoration then use ranged attacks as the standard turn

Make choices that preserve life and foster hope in those around her

No grave robberies, taking things off the dead is fine because that prevents waste

Stealing is only okay to preserve life or achieve a good end

Be respectful of other gods even when fighting against evil ones

Be wary of fiends and actively oppose them 

Prioritize found family and not place as much weight on real blood ties

OOC Notes:

Weird vines grew around her bed every night in Act III and progressive covered the bed, have no idea what it was

Since BG3 has no city watch class, I made her an acolyte

Imagined that Jaheira gave her Belm because she sees her like a daughter
