Leo actually falls for hazel during the course of the giant war

Leo (assuming percy is nack or smth) asks the sea prince for a little advice and since percy is a little salty from the whole rome thing (why leo would ask percy is anyone's guess) he bluntly tells leo, albeit a little sympathetically, its never going to happen

"Get over it man, lot more fishes in the sea"

And. Well. Leo DOES kind of get over hazel.

But. Not quite. He developed a crush on frank instead.

So hes left STILL staring at the happy couple who grow increasingly irate because they think leo's still gunning for hazel

Especially frank? A dude has his pride after all, and this guy thinks the latino is stealing his girl

Except leo just wants them both?

Leo continually keeps spiralling in a misery of hopeless love and he is pining okay, they look good together and leo wants some of that but he cant because the couple doesnt like him and honestly people have not liked him a lot his whole life hes used to it

Jason and piper try to help, they really do, but theyre kind of. Occupied.

Percy is a dense fuck. im sorry in the books he just is. percy is the unreliable author tag personified.

Nico is bitter as hell and while he can understand how leo feels hes just not up to any bonding shit

Annabeth thinks there are better things to be doing (which is not true, strengthening the bonds between team members is needed annie sweetie where is your head at) and tells leo he can focus on othe rproblems preferably later, after the war is done

Basically everyone is just a wreck? Well the others have their s/o but poor leo has no one and shuts himself in

Also internalized homophobia for a few brief days because why not

Leo distracts himself a lot and making a lot more offensive jokes but since none of the crew really knows whats going on with leo they think hes referring to them when hes actually putting himself down

Leo sees frank and hazel and observes how they act ariund each other and he realizes "fuck, i like them." As in not the "this girl is hot id like to flirt" but he literally falls hard.

Nico and reyna arent on board actually lol the two most efficiently functioning demigods are not on board (nico has dealt with percy being an unattainable so for nico and the dudes still kicking and badass id say hes functioning pretty well) so no stable moral support

Leo get to the point that everyone is all a tad mad at him and the last straw is when frank says something and leo just shuts down. He doesnt burn anything, the fire in his eyes literally just dies out

Turns out emotions are pretty important to demigods and their powers? So leo shutting down on his emotions means he loses all. Uh. Power? So to speak.

Lucky frank and hazel get front row seats to watch the spark in leo's eyes burn out and die. They dont understand what it means but it leaves a twisting feeling in their gut when leo just says "okay." And softly shuts his door.
