does the new lighting make a difference ? 😃💡
qotd : what kind of videos do you see the most on youtube📹?
aotd : i like seeing vlogs of international students living abroad, because that motivated and hypes me a lot!🔥✨

As an A level biology student, I love the subject but gosh there days where it doesn't love me back.
Random Shit I've heard lecturers say:
Buckle up for some funky, questionable and downright weird professor quotes from this last semester:
"This guy has a particular fetish for stag beetles. Look at them all!" - Insects lecturer
"Usually in biology a congo line is called a filament" - the algae dude
"It looks like black magic, but it's not actually black magic, you just have to wander off into the complex plane and convince yourself it's going to work" - Calculus lecturer (wandering off into the imaginary numbers is always is a fun pastime if you fancy crushing your brain... or maybe that's just me)
"Time to abuse some notation" - another calulus lecturer
"We have a looootttt of cancellations. The cancellation cup runneth over" - Differential equations lecturer
"That's legit? Yeah that better be legit! It's fairly old, so if it wasn't legit I think a whole lot of mathematicians and physicists would be a bit pissed!" - another differential equations lecturer (in the driest, poshest tone you can possibly imagine)
"The next big advancement... JAWS!!!" - fish lecturer (duh dum... duh dum plays in the background)
"Did you get to see the sea tulips in the lab? Get to sort of fondle them and such like? Blank faces. Nope. Never mind. Forget I mentioned it" - fish lecturer (we do not forget)
"A bit like a shark; a bit like a regular fish. Someone's just stuck a bunch of parts together and gone: this is a fish now 💁♀️🐟. It is the Frankenstein's monster of fish." - fish lecturer describing Chimaera.
Annndddd finally, the most award for the most dramatic Hamlet style soliloquy goes to my differential equations lecturer trying to figure out what a limit does:
"This is a battle! Trust me it's a battle to the death! Do you die? Do you go to zero? Or do you go to infinity? Do you grow? Do you live? E^-3t guarantees decay. Ultimately death and decay"
'The liquid within one of the smart windows begins to turn opaque as it's warmed by the sun' . . While double-glazed windows do help save energy, Singaporean scientists have tweaked the concept to make it even more effective. Instead of leaving an air gap between the two panes of glass, the researchers have inserted a heat-absorbing, light-blocking liquid. . . Developed at Nanyang Technological University, the experimental new "smart window" consists of two panes of ordinary glass, the space between which is filled with a solution consisting of a proprietary hydrogel, water, and a stabilizing compound. During the day, as sunlight passes through the window, the liquid absorbs and stores that light's thermal energy. This keeps the room from heating up, reducing the need to run the air conditioning. Additionally, as the liquid warms up, the hydrogel within it changes from a transparent to an opaque state. Although this ruins the view out of the window, it also reduces the amount of visible light that passes through from outside, further helping to keep the room cool. When the sun goes down at night, the gel cools and becomes clear again, releasing the stored thermal energy. Some of that energy passes through the glass and into the room, reducing demands on the building's heating system. And as an added bonus, the smart window reportedly absorbs exterior noise 15 percent more effectively than traditional double-glazed windows. This paper was recently published in the journal Joule. Hi studyblr! I know it's been a while since I last posted something on my feed. How's your semester going?
Our 2 week break is about to end and it'll be officially the start of our 2nd semester on Monday. I am thankful that I got the chance to rest and somehow not worry about school works even for a short while.
I've had a hard time adjusting for my 1st semester as a freshmen student but I really hope I'll do better this time around.
Is anyone here also taking up BS Biology as their course? Please do send some tips on how I can survive Systematics and Chemical Biology! 🥺

What a relaxing way to start 2020. After graduating from college last month, I have felt completely lost and unsure about the path I want to take in life.
I've been applying to jobs, internships, and programs - which has been very stressful and frustrating. In the meantime, I'm taking this time to relax and enjoy the things that make me happy. I have such a strong passion for learning, so during this time I plan to read as much as possible to continue educating myself.
Also during this time I plan to make lots of yummy pour over coffee!!
Happy New Year's everyone!

3/7 days of productivity
Today we went through a pretty gross practical where we had to put some maggots through a maze and see if they would turn left or right - riveting I know. After various classes where I was semi-productive, I came home and did that work on epigenetics.
I did end up speaking to my teacher - and what she said my not be what I wanted to hear, but I think her opinion does have value and I should probably consider it...
Tomorrow I need to write my biology essay and finish the psychology one. I also need to see my teacher about writing up my practical - since I will not be around during the deadline so I need to hand it in early.
