Bisbee turquoise is some of the rarest and most valued material out there, and one of my favorite kinds of turquoise. It is a byproduct of one of the largest copper mines to ever exist, and at first was simply sent to the dump since the focus was copper and other metals. The mine workers would smuggle it out in their lunch boxes, and that’s how this incredible turquoise first hit the market. It is known for its striking blues, smoky chocolate brown to red matrix, and impeccable hardness (which for turquoise denotes high quality). The highest grade material came from an area of the mine known as the Lavender Pit, and this is where the vast majority of my collection is from. I rarely take these stones out to work with since they’re so sought after and hard to find, but I’m thinking of including a few in pieces soon. // Recently I’ve had a few people comment that they miss my turquoise pieces and posts about this amazing material. If you’ve been following me for a while I’m sure you can recall a time when almost all of my pieces featured turquoise, but now I work predominantly with other materials. Turquoise is still my favorite, but as the handmade jewelry market on IG grew I felt that it became incredibly saturated with turquoise work, and so being the Aries that I am, felt a pull to differentiate myself. 😂♈️ But I can’t lie, I miss working with and sharing info about my favorite stone, so expect to see more turquoise jewelry and posts like this in the future! 💙
