first, im gonna say this is heavily inspired by the myth of Kronos (Cronus? w/e) and his children

now ill list the kids names from oldest to youngest along with their ages

Happy Child takes place in a fantasy world, with various inspo from real life time periods like ancient greece and the early 1800s.

the clothes are inspired partly by ancient greek clothing, but mostly its all fantasy

Happy Child's story is kinda dark, not straight up horror but definite horror elements and dark themes

the main character, Saru, is son and first born to Babu and Mira, the heir to Babu's fortune and vast estate.

Babu was once a poor man, homeless living in the town Kowlyn, but he sold his soul to a demon for riches and fortune, buying a large manor in the forest just outside town and filling it with the most extravagant and luxurious items, then choosing a wealthy mans beautiful daughter (Mira) and buying her as his wife.

Babu was obsessed with beauty, and wanted to have the perfect, beautiful child.

when Mira became pregnant he was ecstatic, but when his son, Saru, was born, he found him lacking and was nothing but disappointed. for this he cast Saru aside, and while still providing him with the best tutors and teachers didnt love or nurture him like a father should. However, he controlled every aspect of Saru's life. What he wore, what he did, how he wore his hair, and what and when he ate (often starving him to force him to achieve Babu's small minded idea of beauty).

Mira was more sympathetic to her child, trying to love and nurture him but often she wasnt permitted to even see him.

Babu wanted another child to "try again" and thus Mira gave birth to twins Sari and Sori, but again, Babu was unsatisfied with the children, repeating the same pattern he had done with Saru.

Babu tried over and over to create the "perfect" child, forcing Mira to give birth to a total of 12 children that all couldnt meet Babu's standards.

after the birth of their last child, Semi, Babu demanded they try again, and while Mira did get pregnant, due to her age she suffered a miscarriage, and after over 20 years of abuse suffered a psychological breakdown.

sometimes she was sullen and wallowing in despair, while others she was stark raving mad, and Babu, furious, disallowed her from ever seeing the children again, locking her in her room where her mental state only declined further.

Saru being the oldest took on the role of caretaker for his youngest siblings, especially Semi and Sula, being only 1 and 6.

None of the children were ever allowed to step foot outside, Babu being ashamed of their lack of perfection and instead focused on Saru, while not Babu's perception of beautiful, wanted him to be the perfect heir.

on Saru's 24th birthday, Babu has a dream of his children taking his fortune, and growing more successful than him until Babu becomes forgotten, and becomes terrified and paranoid that his children are secretly planning to take everything he has.

he becomes insane, at first restricting his children even more, not permitting them out of their rooms, but as his paranoia grows he loses himself more and more, until finally makes a plan to " take care" of his fears while also not losing his children as he saw them as part of his belongings.

in the dead of night he travels to their rooms, stopping at Semi's room first, and he devours Semi whole. he works his way up through the rooms, his body becoming more monstrous and grotesque after each child he devours until he reaches the twins room, each screaming at the sight of him, alerting Saru across the hall.

he devours them, and when the screaming stops Saru knows that whatever his father is doing, hes next.

he breaks a leg off a table in his room, and hides in the closet. When Babu enters, Saru peaks out to see and almost screams at his new monstrous form, forcing himself to keep quiet until Babu turns his back to the closet. Saru jumps out and stabs the table leg into Babu's back and runs out the door as he screams in pain. he checks a few of his siblings rooms, but when he finds no trace of any of them decides its too late for them and makes a run for the front door.

Babu screams and cries for him to come back, but Saru keeps running until hes in the front lawn, running into the forest aimlessly just trying to get away.

he runs until the sun rises, stumbling into town and everyone is stunned at the beauty Babu couldnt see. he meets many people, one being Ruko, a blind man who becomes bewitched by Saru's voice, but nothing can ease Saru's despair, and after 12 days he flings himself into the sea and drowns.

he awakes back in the forest and is forced to relive those same 12 days over and over until he can return to Babu and free his siblings from his engorged stomach
