Kiss Me Quick

The great thing about Bitty is that he’s quick. He’s quick on the ice, which makes him valuable to the team despite his lack of physical impact. He’s quick on the uptake, which means he knows when Jack needs space and quiet away from the madness of The Haus and he’s also quick to clear everyone out so that Jack can get it. He’s quick with a smile or a laugh or a hug (usually accompanied with a piece of pie) when someone’s in need, even for Jack now that they’ve moved past that horrible phase where Jack couldn’t seem to show Bitty anything but disdain despite that being the last thing he felt.

That said, the worst thing about Bitty is that he’s quick. Quick to anger, which actually Jack loves about him, his passion and his strength, but he worries that one day Bitty will get into a fight he can’t win and Jack won’t be there to back him up (and then Jack thinks about the time Bitty got concussed and he has to stop and breathe very deeply until he can make himself stop reliving it). Quick with a chirp, too, and Jack worries that he can’t keep up with Bitty’s funny, sharp mind, that he’s still too much the humourless hockey robot for Bitty to every really like him.

Sometimes Jack thinks Bitty might be made more of light than flesh, for the way he flows across the ice, the way he seems to sparkle in the light of his oven, the way he dances always just seemingly beyond Jack’s grasp, something beautiful that Jack can never touch. He must be made of light, because Jack swears that’s the speed he seems to move at.

And the funny thing is, Jack didn’t even realise Jack thought all this until ten minutes ago, when Bad Bob told him to listen to his heart and take his shot.

And now Jack’s standing in front of Bitty and for once Bitty is standing still, not dancing or baking or sliding out of the way so that he doesn’t brush against Jack and maybe, Jack realises, maybe it’s him who’s being moving too fast to see what’s been going on here and maybe this is all going to be ok.

And then it’s Jack moving fast, crossing the distance, leaning down, leaning in… and after that, he can’t tell if he’s stock still or rushing through space at a million miles an hour. And it doesn’t matter, because Bitty is kissing him back.

I once read a really good, in-depth Bitty x Jack fanfic on tumblr, not realizing what the heck any of it was, didn’t rb it apparently bc i had no clue wtf I was reading, only that it was super good, and now I think about it constantly and wish I could find it again

I think I remember details of it but also like?? Idk if it’s just stuff I’ve read/seen since then. What does Jack/Bitty stuff come from anyway? It’s not real people right?

I know nothing. Except that fic? Yeah, that fic was heavenly. RIP to the memory of that dam fine fic.
