This is a bit harder, but I think romance femme fatale. If not done right, it just feels sexist and awkward. See your love did it right, and that's about the only BL off the top off my head that did, actually. Other than that maybe romanticization of possession. I have absolutely no problem with jealousy but shown in an exaggerated manner it just isn't my thing.

Top 5 Unexpectedly Good Communicators!

Big Dragon: I mean, obviously? I am putting them on this list because I need them here, frankly. They are the biggest and the best version of this.

Bed Friend: They were not perfect but they really did surprise me when they actually did manage to do so.

Moonlight Chicken: Specially Heart and Li Ming win this because they turned out to be the best communicators ever despite it involving basically learning a second language and figuring out ways to get creative in terms of understanding each other.

Nitiman: What was this fever dream of a show? Well, whatever it was, they did talk to each other on the regular!

Ghost Host, Ghost House: Who ever saw this coming? But they did communicate very well, even when they had to grow apart in order to find their way back together.

This was a real test and I might have failed but I TRIED.

13. Which asian ql tropes get you every time?

Best Friends to lovers: the intimacy of familiarity that shifts into something new and deeper? They’re so enmeshed in each other’s lives that the only slightly adjacent slide into something more is an inch and a chasm away at the same time? The conflict of risk vs reward? The pining one and the oblivious one? So excellent. I will watch this over and over.

The easy chemistry of Tse Shou and Li Gong in Plus and Minus was on point for this trope. The breakfast coffee routine in the first episode? Flawless. The “sabotage that blind date” competition? Unparalleled.

Similarly, rivals to lovers/rivals to friends to lovers: I do enjoy a relationship that’s secure enough to handle some competition and conflict. And something about skipping the part where they try to impress each other? Excellent. The gradual but inevitable shift in the dynamic to something new and unexpected. Mmmm delicious. And there’s nothing like a well executed realization scene.

THE realization arc of all time. Flawless visual representation of the “ Oh…. OH. Oh NO.” moment. Classic. Timeless. Perfect.

Not sure this one’s a trope exactly cause I feel like it’s only now getting some regular use but mutual intense attraction. BOTH characters are attracted to each other. BOTH characters wanna screw each other silly. Also I love this version: virgins/inexperienced characters that are full speed ahead anyway. Like, just no doubts whatsoever over the fact that they are horny, they like this person, and they wanna fuck, ok? Let’s fucking do this😂 (See: Diao in Cutie Pie; Zong Yi in Kiseki Dear to me)

14. Which asian ql tropes do you want to banish to the trash pile?

The romanization of toxic jealousy/ insane possessive behavior. Just… ugh. Controlling, possessive, boundary violating behavior is just ….not sexy to me. Also I will never understand the “no one can look at you but me” thing. “If you go out looking too good I’m gonna be mad about it.” …What even is that?

Predator/prey dynamic. The pursuer vs the pursuee thing just … isn’t my favorite. There’s nothing more annoying to me than a wide eyed “helpless”, passive love interest that has to be negotiated into allowing kissing or other physical intimacy. The poor innocent virginal character that’s scared of sex and the pushy pursuer that will rakishly wear them down into doing it anyway is played out. Come up with something new.

Weird prudish behavior from one of the characters after they’ve already hooked up and established a relationship. Like… Why are you scandalized every time the person you’re dating wants to kiss you? You are in a relationship. You have done filthy things to each other and enjoyed them. What is happening?! I don’t understand 😭

I have a question for you, what is your favourite physical trope you loved in any of the bls you watched?

Physical trope I absolutely love is the head on the shoulder while facing each other.

Its generally done in emotional scenes and it's just so good if done right. It is quite rare, but we got a few which are the best scenes ever shot in any BLs.

Ae being at end of his wits for his attraction towards Pete. Sadly I didn't find a gif for this scene. A screen shot does not do it justice.

Togawa being gone for Nozue san after an emotional confession. Dont have a gif for this either.

I have been off of bl shows after a few really bad ones. It wasn't until this drama that I saw shit ton of BL. A few has come close but I am waiting for the show that will manage to make cherry magic drop from 1 to 2.
