Fair warning, I'm gonna probably write way too much cause this prompt just lets me, basically. My bl journey I guess started at the end of 2021 but it was at the beginning of 2022 that it really took hold properly. I had a lot of free time and not a lot I could do with it and I was consuming a lot of queer cinema at the time, mostly stuff from the us and europe and somehow one day I came across a letterboxd list that had some jbls in it. And so it began with...
I think I've mentioned this about a million times before but here it is again. They were my firsts. I'd seen asian cinema before but it was love at first sight with these two. Which is saying a lot if you consider the hair. I was amazed by how much of this story was told in lingering looks and gestures and such beautiful framing. Now the inspiration for the visuals seems fairly obvious to me but at the time I had never picked up a manga before.
After this I watched, His, Life: Love on the Line and Restart after Come back Home, over the next couple of days. After watching the film His, I discovered that there was a prequel series and watched that.
And so it began. I went into research mode and found this wonderful world of ql. And after Japan, Thailand was my next stop.
So I was now in a sea of options and for some reason I decided to start with this one. I honestly can't tell you why, other than it was on youtube and I thought that was great.
This was really like nothing I'd ever watched. I remember thinking: How are they so soft??? They were just so adorable and smol and young. Such babies. This is also where my journey with Perth started and he's still one of my favourites.
(After this I don't remember the order, but I watched a lot of engineers in quick succession. Gen Y, My Engineer, 2 Moons, 2 Moons 2, Sotus, My Gear and Your Gown and just kept going with 2Gether and some others. Basically I was playing catch up.)
This was the first present day one, so to speak. I watched it only a couple of months after it ended and omg how far they had come, was what I was thinking. This was also the show that brought me here so it's an important step on my bl journey. This became the place where I would see gifs and decide what to watch and basically tell me everything I needed to know about bl. It would be some time before this blog was born but I was around here, lurking eheh
My first kbl. Yes I was spoiled. The universe thought I should be rewarded somehow and gave me great shows to start with, ok? But to be fair at this point I was reading a lot of opinions here and so I chose well where to start. This show is still very precious to me.
My first Taiwan BL and my first bl wedding. Yay. I didn't watch it live but almost. I think I watched as soon as it finished. I was still in my binge phase, I wasn't ready for the weekly viewing experience.
My first live watch. I had binged UWMA at some point and I loved them in it, so it was kinda the perfect show to start watching live.
This was the show that basically created Rose. I had created the blog already but was still mostly lurking. I watched it live and it made me want to learn to gif (it would be a long journey) and it was the first show I posted any thoughts about. This one and Moonlight Chicken were the first shows where I eagerly awaited for the next episode and at the same time dreaded them.
Well that got long, unsurprisingly. I veered way too far off the main point which was to talk about first shows and not my own journey with bl and this fandom but @embersinthefirelight said I could explain and honestly my brain just read, write whatever you want. I need strict parameters for these things or I'll just go off if I'm feeling chatty. So sorry Ember.
