but omg she's just like me fr. Shes a black girl who goofs off a bunch, is overly kind, loves snacks, compassionate, easily amused/distracted, a bit naive LIKE SHE HITS THE FUCKING NAIL (in her PCFS asks vid she also seems to be good/have a liking towards art. LIKE ME)

She also seems a little autistic imo which makes me extremely happy bc I also think I am too, making her relate to me x 1000

Hell even the big boobs and big hair thing I used to relate to (I shaved off my hair 🙁 USED TO HAVE SUCH A NICE AFRO THO IT WAS HUGE)

I have a bunch of kins but she's def one of my top ones, and why I especially like her is because you don't see black female characters in media with a more sillier (WITHOUT coming across as the "funny black friend" character trope), kinder and overall different personality,, more than the stereotypical rude/"ratchet"/"ghetto"/loud/impatient ones. A huge reason on why I respect Erica from TETOCU so much too, because she falls so far away from the typical black girl stereotype and actually has a personality. WHILE BEING HIGHLY INTELLIGENT AND GIFTED AT THAT 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿

Growing up as a black girl these types of characters are so fucking important to see. Its a very small selection and I just named 2 characters, but again there's not much to choose from (and it's just especially great when the one you relate to actually looks like you. It breaks the harmful stereotypes and show that we as a race and gender obviously have a diversity of different personalities).

Another thing I love is how she's in a anime-esc series, which as you probably know we're not too greatly represented there either. And the fact that it's a black man too who made all this,, it always made my heart so happy bc growing up a black person with alternative/nerdy interests (such as anime and even drawing/animation/art in general),, that was seen as lowkey impossible for some reason. Bc I guess to most; black people only like rap and stuff.. 💀

If you are a white person. And you’re friends with black people, and you value the relationship between them and you, educate yourself. Don’t wait on your friends to do it for u. Don’t come up in they business with some “oh yeah my opinion on black people, blm, racism, anti blackness, anti white racism...”

Shush. We don’t want your opinion. Especially if it’s gonna come in between what we say and our experiences. Lemme tell u one thing. Google is FREE. And black people are more than tired of educating the ignorant. We aren’t afraid of ending friendships and drifting away just cause you said something insensitive to my face. TO. MY. FACE. We have spent tm time staying silent and letting y’all say absurdities. We will call you out now. And if u mad and stay stubborn and don’t try to learn, maybe we shouldn’t be friends. Maybe you should be friends with people that share your same opinions. We can and will choose friends.

I choose to stay friends with my friends because I believe in “simple ignorance” and “honest mistakes” and also because this is the first time and I’m giving them the benefit of doubt; and also because I’ve known them for years and I cherish our relations. They haven’t said anything insensitive before, but I’m calling them out because I value the friendship and believe that they can evolve. If you don’t believe your friends can evolve or they just don’t, end the friendship. You shouldn’t have to deal with bizarre, unwanted, racist and disrespectful vibes. We will be black and unapologetic. Period

If you aren’t black and don’t feel offended by this post, good for you, continue in this lane. If you were though, ask yourself the good questions. Just because we are friends does not mean you can start to be the “white ally who’s a bit too comfy” like no. Stay in your seat. If you have questions -that come from a good intention like learning more though- about your black friends’ experiences, etc, ask them.

No one really talks about how different racism is depending on where you live. Sure the basis is the same but they "delivery" can be quite different.

Everybody sees how terrible Black People and POC are treated in America. It really is terrible and the hearts of black people and POC outside of America ache for our people in that country. We sympathise with them, we do our best to help, by spreadibg the word or donating etc but alot of times we can't empathise with them.

There are terrible incidents that are unfortunately similar in other cases but alot of times how people racism is different in other places.

I am in no way trying to divert any attention from the atrocities taking place in other countries but sometimes its hard to relate and understand the whole thing.

I share a tweet about another innocent black person murdered by police officers after I've left my detention I got for disrespecting a teacher. ( And by disrespecting, I mean I got in trouble for asking the half black teacher why it would be difficult for the white students in the class to listen to discussion about and read To Kill A MockingBird)

I make a post about Blackgirls fighting for their rights to where Afros after my (black) Vice Principal tells me to limit the amount of times I wear my afro because it's a weekend hairstyle. And after my friends gets an ordermark for wearing chiney-bumbs/bantu knots because it reminds her of slavery.

I think of the anti asian xenophobia after a black teacher laughs and "teasingly" asks my chinese friend if she's getting her dog meat and dumplings when we enter our homeroom to collect our lunch.

We don't experience racism the same way and while we fight to help our people in other countries. You are just as valid for feeling upset over a micro aggression even if you know in The United States it probably would've been much worse.

It's doesn't make a "fake" ally or black person for not understanding why it is dangerous for black people, black men to walk with their hood up the first time you hear about it.

Because you don't experience it the same way.

Maybe they won't understand why you would get upset/scared in a certain situation in your circumstances. But that's okay. (Of course I don't mean racism is okay, I just mean one person not understanding another person's struggle even though they have the same "qualities" that cause this struggle.)

But we should all educate our selves on other people's struggles. Whether it's a black child from a Caribbean country learning about the struggles of black people from another country or one POC learning about the struggles of another or a white person learning about the struggles of a POC

Like I see a lot of people defending it saying that it's a positive portrayal at least, but I don't think we have to force ourselves to be comfortable with something that is painful. She could have been all of these positive things as some other kind of animal.
