so i was doing super well until i wasn't in 2023 w my succulent pot...was checking the black thumb tag and saw the last things i talked about was my lucky bamboo (dead bc i fucked up w fertilizer, shouldn't have) and the aloes in my giant succulent pot (forgot it outside during winter 2022-2023)
i didn't want to do plant stuff until i could get a hang of myself bc they don't deserve the black thumb. but! i was going to a plant show with ken's wife (and ken ig) and i got fixated on the idea of an orchid bc saw a cool photo of a black orchid, but upon further inspection it's not a moth orchid i can buy at the local big box store so i had expectations for the show
no funky orchid at the show (so many other exotic plants tho), but then i stopped by this nursery on the way home and lo and behold, the owner of the store is obsessed with orchids and had a few for sale. most were the normal moth orchids, i like them well enough but i didn't like the colors available
and then i saw this "older gent," as the owner described the orchid
(second pic is higher definition)
less likely for me to kill him, he's more robust because of his age. different from a moth orchid (monopodial) because of those "canes" that grow out (sympodial). the flowers are also very different from what people typically think of as an orchid, another draw, little goth flowers (weird coloring bc he's a complex hybrid species i think?)
