As I journey through #BlackFaith, Black #Religion, and Black Folkness all month in that space as we celebrate #BlackHistoryMonth, it feels important for me to acknowledge a very specific context of being raised Southern #BlackChristian (which is very different from what is "traditionally" known as protestant #Christian in the U.S. The main point is: Context Matters when we study the #Bible. The main point is: If I were not born in these United States of American and to the Republic for which it is supposed to stand -- it is HIGHLY probable that my God experience would be drastically different. The main point is: The Christianity of my youth would not have allowed me to imagine freedom in any way other than the very specific way that was set before me and my contemporaries (and how can a cookie-cutter formula of #freedom every really be freedom for people God made, intentionally, unique?
