Beautiful Hellebore flowers! Kind of late in the season for them. Hellebores are one of my favorite baneful herbs! They are in the buttercup family along with wolfsbane, and their toxins work in a similar fashion. Hellebore is traditionally associated with Caput Algol, the fixed star, making the eye in Medusa’s head. Hellebore can be used to paralyze a situation, to cut one off from resources/energy, vampiric workings. It’s poison cuts if the throat, and is thus connected to the gallows and Lilith in her strangler aspect. Black Hellebore-Helleborus niger-aka Lenten Rose or Christmas Rose. It blooms in mid winter early spring with pale white flowers. The flowers petals are actually more like leaves. There are hundreds of varieties of hellebore from sinking hellebore to double queen, coming in a wide range of deep rich colors. Hellebore is a number of the buttercup family just like wolfsbane, and it is also poisonous. It was once believed that hellebore could cure “mania.” The toxins in hellebore have a burning acrid taste and are related to the chemicals found in road venom.
