A soft hum escaped Samuel, unbothered at the other's accusation. Was it really an accusation if it was the truth? He was probably thinking about this too hard. Nothing good ever came from that.
He pushed off from the wall he leaned on, steps slow and measured without any sense of urgency, walking over to Logan and smiling as he invaded his space. A dare to see what the other man would do.

James couldn’t remember if Logan had said yes to the tour of the offices but they were doing it anyway. It was a quiet day and he felt that it was important for his son to see where he would be working within the decade. Maybe he was doing it to give him some motivation to actually work for a position rather than just coasting into a job. Yes he was tough but Logan was his family and he’d much rather lose the whole company than see his son fail in life.

He had paused to watch the twins play at the back of the house for a few brief moments, but a knock at the door drew his attention away from the window. Confusion flit across his face as he made his way to the front. He had not been expecting any visitors today, but he supposed it was not unusual for people to call uninvited, especially in a town as small as Sweetwater.
Ever cautious, he cast a glance out the window beside the door. He didn’t recognize the man outside. He was tall with dark eyes and hair, a devilish smirk beneath a trim beard, and a black hat. A newcomer, no doubt about it. But why had he come here?
He opened the door.
“Can I help you, sir?”
Maude stays near the shadows of the bar, for now. The current crowd doesn’t suit her lucrative eye, and she’s not had a bad night so far- especially for her first night in town. For someone running away from a hot situation in Lousiana, a trip she’s made many times before, she’s proud to note to herself that she’s turning it around into a positive financial gain. By the time she gets to where she’s headed, she’ll have plenty of money to flash in her son’s face. There’s nothing like reminding her gambler-turned-lawman of a son what he’s missing with his life of honesty. It’s not like she’ll ever really tell him she’s proud of him. Not in front of anyone else, anyway.
Her gaze sweeps the room. No one terribly powerful or horribly rich is catching her eye, but she’s sure there’s more than one way to accomplish things. Her eyes land on a certain man near the other end of the bar, and her eyes light up. She makes her casual way over to him, sliding her arms onto the bar top and nodding to the bartender for a drink. She cuts her eyes his way, as if noticing him for the first time, and then turns fully towards him, a smile at the ready.
❝My lands, Robert Bedman, is that you I’m seein’?❞ She knows full well that it isn’t, but when he turns to look at her, she’ll have her open, and it won’t even matter.
