the sound of fabric slipping through your fingers was louder than you expected. yukimiya glanced up from where he sat on the couch, one hand draped lazily over the armrest, and blinked when he saw you tying something around your head.
“... are you about to fight crime?” his voice was equal parts confused and amused, that soft laugh of his bubbling up when the knot tightened at the back of your head.
“no,” you said matter-of-factly, adjusting the blindfold so it sat snug over your eyes. “i’m about to fight furniture.”
yukimiya’s brows lifted. “pardon?”
you stood there for a beat, arms stretched out in front of you like some sitcom caricature of a ghost. then you carefully began inching toward the coffee table. your shin bumped it almost immediately. “ow, see? dangerous.”
his laugh turned into a full-bodied chuckle, warm and bright, filling the room. “wait, wait, wait… don’t tell me you’re doing what i think you’re doing.”
“i’m testing the apartment,” you declared, still shuffling like you were on some secret mission. “for death traps. you live with optic neuropathy, yuki. i want to know what you go through when you’re moving around. if i can’t do this blindfolded without dying, i’ve failed you as a girlfriend.”
he pressed a hand to his face, shoulders shaking. “you’re unbelievable. you know that?” but the words didn’t hide the smile tugging at his lips, nor the way his chest softened with affection.
you continued your dramatic quest, sliding your hands across walls, feeling the edges of the counter, nearly tripping on the rug until yukimiya shot forward to catch your elbow. “okay, maybe the rug is public enemy number one,” you admitted sheepishly, tilting your head toward where his voice came from.
he steadied you, still laughing but with a gentleness underneath. “you don’t have to do this for me.”
“i want to,” you said, lowering your voice so he’d hear the sincerity. “you’ve told me before about how frustrating it is when your eyes get blurry, or when the world doesn’t look like you want it to. i can’t fix it, but… maybe i can at least try to understand.”
his grip on your arm loosened, fingers sliding down until his hand found yours, giving it a small squeeze. yukimiya wasn’t the type to get emotional easily, but you caught the quiet hitch in his breath, the way his voice dropped low.
“you’re ridiculous,” he whispered, “but you’re also the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”
you grinned under the blindfold. “so, should we file a lawsuit against the rug?”
he laughed again, tugging you close until your forehead brushed his shoulder. “how about we just… move it tomorrow. together.”
you hummed in agreement, leaning into him, blindfold still covering your eyes. in the darkness, you could feel everything sharper – the warmth of his hand, the steady rhythm of his breathing, the weight of his affection in the simplest touch. and yukimiya, for once, didn’t mind that you couldn’t see. because somehow, in that moment, you understood him perfectly.
