I’ve recently been doing painting. And so I thought I would share them here. I feel that they come out really well and people seem to like them.

I have to memorize all of my numbers. Credit card numbers expiration date CVV code. I know mini telephone numbers. Medicaid numbers. Etc. Don’t mess with me when it comes to memorizing numbers

To sort canned food, I scan the barcode with an app named SeeingAI from Microsoft Research. It gives me much information about the item and then I line them up alphabetically. And memorize the order.

Not all blind people are totally blind. It breaks down like this. -Blind - you have no sight. -Legally Blind- is about 80% of people who are considered “blind” meaning they have some degree of vision but it is so severely impaired it is a disability. This ranges from only knowing if it’s light or dark, to seeing shapes or silhouettes or maybe some side or tunnel vision. Each condition creates different patterns of vision loss. - visually impaired or low vision- refers to a persons visual ability and encompasses a wide range of vision loss. But typically they may be disabled or close. I am saying all of this because I have lost 95% of my vision except a very small hole in the center of my vision. So I still see a little bit. But I cannot drive or run or read print. When I am out in the world with people or on my own I am usually using a cane. Often I can see things or people. This seems to confuse people and I hear them say “he’s faking or that guy can see.” Think of it more as being on a small piece of ice in the ocean but it is melting and you don’t know how long it will last. This is uncomfortable for me/US as blind people as a condition already. but we are not deaf and we have feelings. And we may actually see you. So When or if you see a Blind person or someone using a cane they are just another human being trying their best. You don’t have to go silent or “freeze”, up against a wall like a spy movie. We like to talk and it’s nice to interact with other humans once in a while. Perhaps even offer some assistance. We might need some. In any case I hope this clears up some misconceptions about blindness and the wide world of it. Take a chance make a friend. Being blind is not the same for everyone. Actually very few people are “Totally Blind”. About 80% of people who are blind have some degree of sight. This can range from only being able to tell the difference between light and dark, to seeing shapes or silhouettes or pieces of vision out of the side of side or through a tunnel. The types of remaining vision vary with the factors causing it. But regardless of the condition “legally blind” is a term most blind people fall under. This means the vision has been severely impaired to the degree that it is disabling. So when you see a blind person caning toward you. They may appear to look at you. It’s possible, they are, but who knows how they see you. The point is that blind people are not oblivious to the world around us. We can hear you and we are just as interesting and human as you. Don’t be afraid to speak up to talk with or help a blind person. We could often use it. It’s sad to know everyone just gets silent and watches you like a circus act. I say all of this because I want to increase awareness and let you know that if you see a blind person, who “looks like they can see” they are not faking. It is very difficult for us and we are just people who are trying our best. If nothing else remember this. We are not BLIND people, we are just PEOPLE who can’t see. So take a chance, talk to a blind person. make a friend.
