There is an inverse relationship between how well I’m doing and how well my blorbos are doing

Somehow struck by a scene of two characters who are close to one another. One of them is like. recovering from illness or injury or whatever. And the other decides to get them a gift. But they desperately reject it. They're begging and pleading with the other character to not give them any kind of gift.

And eventually it comes out that the character begging the other to not gift them something did that because they have a really fucked up understanding of relationships and has been mentally tracking the monetary value of every single thing they have done for the other person, and that the other person has done for them. Not only would the gift put them further in the red (the other person HAS been taking care of them a lot recently after all) but they're unable to repay it immediately which is surely also grounds for some kind of additional "late fee." And they're desperate to provide the other person with some sort of profit margin.
