Violet’s signets: Onyx Storm spoilers

So Rebecca has reiterated (and this was first mentioned in Iron Flame? Or maybe it was Carr in Fourth Wing) that Violet’s first signet is power-wielding. Not lightning wielding. Lightning is just the most comfortable form her power takes. Maybe that’s somewhat influenced by her mother’s signet and could even be why she was so inclined to believe Theophanie was her own lightning wielding venin counterpart.

It’s certainly Violet taking the most grand display of power she is aware of as someone who for a very long time felt powerless.

Also the whole thing about commanding the skies - which some theories are percolating about true power residing in the skies and not the ground, hence why the venin are the ultimate corruption as they channel directly from the earth, but dragons bonding with humans who “ground” themselves to wield power that originally never should have belonged to them (hence why the irids are wary of the humans who have abused the abilities gifted to them).

It would be very on point, following that theory, that Violet is someone who pulls power directly from the sky AND is bonded to an irid, which makes her a rarity among rarities, even more so than we already perceive her as, having bonded two dragons.

BUT ANYWAY. Rebecca has told us that we have explored about 85% of Violet’s power. I am in full belief that the final 15% would be Violet figuring out how to wield power in forms that are not lightning. Like waves of energy or shifting the earth itself. Idk.

But having said that, Rebecca has said we have barely brushed the surface of Violet’s second signet, “Dream walking”. Which I put in quotes bc I firmly believe she can do more than that.

I would argue that her brand of inntinnsic is more than just wandering around the subconscious. It’s been proven that she can actually interact with the dreamer within the dream space AND she can interact with any intruders (see: Berwyn - the other “dreamwalker”).

BUT. I would argue that she has already “mindwalked” before, among other things.

LET US ALL RECALL “My house. My chair. My woman.”

I’m sure you remember.

In that scene, for a very brief moment, Violet is able to read Xaden’s mind (whose thoughts were basically a combination of mmm so good so nice and I love her so much). Now it’s kinda brushed over as their bond and Xaden being particularly unguarded in this moment, allowing her to directly reach his thoughts this time.

HOWEVER, now knowing she is a form of inntinnsic, I fully believe this is the first clear evidence of her “mind walking” in a conscious state.

Up to this point in Iron Flame, Violet had already been dreamwalking in Xaden’s dreams, as she keeps believing she is having a recurring nightmare of Berwyn coming for her and being forced to channel and give in to being venin WHEN IN REALITY these were all Xaden’s dreams. Now Andarna, upon Violet’s realisation of her second signet, says that Violet can do this with anyone, but she is most drawn to Xaden.

In “my house, my chair, my woman”, pretty much all her thoughts were Xaden. So her mind is drawn to his, and his mind is, for once, wide open.

Not to mention, that whole chunk where she reads his mind is in ITALICS. Rebecca is very clever with how she uses every aspect of the written medium to inform and enrich the story. It was italics and a lack of quotation marks that had us frothing at the mouth when it was first revealed that Xaden was an inntinnsic.

Time will tell if her abilities are strong enough to get past shields, which is why it seems like right now she can only dream walk bc no one can shield in their sleep.

I also believe there was one other time she mindwalked, and this time kind of intentionally? But rather than jumping into someone else’s mind, she forced her own thoughts on someone else.

After getting tortured by Varrish, Dain arrives and tries to read her memories. Violet, pissed as hell, decides she’ll give him every memory she has.

I’m pretty sure in Iron Flame, she describes it as something like “she grabs onto his presence in her mind and forces him to see everything”. Like thinking her thoughts aggressively is one thing, but forcing Dain, who we have been told in OS is actually quite powerful (perhaps more than we are actually aware), to stay in her mind and flood him with her memories is an entirely different ability. And Dain was pretty shocked and exhausted by the whole thing. So I wonder if her manipulation of his mental presence is physically taxing.

So not only can she mindwalk, she can manipulate what is happening in the mindspace, and as evident by her lucid dream with Xaden against Berwyn, the scene with Dain in Iron Flame is confirmation she can manhandle another the person whose thoughts she is walking within.

So Violet can mindwalk, manhandle, manipulate.

So moving forward:

Violet should be able to shape her power into forms other than lightning at some point

Violet could arguably reach inside the mind of another WHILE BOTH ARE FULLY CONSCIOUS and potentially rip their mind to shreds. Or yknow. Inception.

New blog new book theory.

In The Wise man's fear by Patrick Rothfuss. We get a number of unusual curses.

"tehlu's tits and teeth."

"Fire and ash"

"Burned body of God!"

For example.

But let me draw your attention to The Cthaeth.

When it swore. I found it quite peculiar.

Blood, Bracken, and Bone"

We have some idea towards the importance of blood . And towards bone. But given the context of the series. Let us go by Bloodline, and for Bone we'll go by rings.

The nature of bloodlines is important in regards to Kvothe and the way his blood runs when there is rain and lightning. And bloodlines can run deep. (Also if you know what the series was supposed to originally be named. But that's for another theory)

We also know from the songs that. Events are waiting in the wings.

Namely "one a son who brings the blood" which I fully believe is Kvothe.

Bone and Rings. In regards to The Maer and is Butler. We know that a ring of bone can symbolize long lasting favors or a lasting enmity. either of which can carry on for generations.

I have heavy suspicions that the item in the lackless box is a ring of bone.

But I won't lie to you. Bracken confused me. It's a plant that is literally around the world. It's edible in moderation but poisonous otherwise. But then I had to think of how The Cthaeth said it. They were things it was weary of. Things that hold power. So I looked for every mention of poison.

First is when they talk of secrets. How a secret of the mouth is poison. And how even a fool knows to spit out a mouth full of poison. But a secret of the heart is dangerous because we keep it bottled up allowing it to fester. Second is the plumbob that compels you to tell the truth. And third is when Kvothe uses poison to kill the false Troup.

I think Bracken is a natural poison that can hurt the far. Even The Cthaeth

Now here's where I need you to bare with me.

Naming is the art of calling

Seeing is the art of knowing a thing

And shaping is the art of changing

No art is more fearful then changing. Felurian warned about it. And so did Elodin. Bast has shown us that the face arts of making things seem and making things be are two distinct arts. The glamour for his legs is a seeming. When he turns the ink on the table into a bird. That is a blend of seeming and beeing. But when he kills the rogue soldiers. (You get the idea. I'll come back to this later.)

But I believe that Bracken will be a noticeable mention in the doors of stone, that Kvothe the one who brings the blood, will use the bone ring in the lack less box. And ask a favor of either someone in the fae that has ties to his family or he's going to be the one that releases someone.

My fear is either it was the Moon

Or Teccam

Though I do think teccaim (I don't remember the proper spelling, forgive me?) Is the one locked at the university. Which is why when puppet tried to change himself to be more in tube with the archive it partially succeeded. He took on the aspects of the books. But couldn't do the same for teccaims cave. Which would make the master of the archives one of the Aymer. (But that's for another theory. I lost all my previous notes. Sorry 🙏)

If Kvothe does these things or causes them. I could only imagine one thing to drive him that far and it's Denna and I tink it's her death that does it. When Bast mentions why people seek out The Cthaeth. One such reason was a fruit that could bring back the dead.

And his reaction said much. And Kvothe bring on the war with for Cinder. And the assumption that he's using s seeming to play as Denna's patron and the song he had her commissioning.

I to establish a false bloodline. And use the maer's position and then aim for the king. Or to get directly at the king. And we know at some point Kvothe kills a king.

I don't see Haliax as the type of boss to let Cinder out of view for too long. Kvothe ruined his plans of collecting money, assassinating the maer, and him discrediting the maer with how he was failing to deal with the bandits. And a possible marriage to the lackless. As the Maer did mention that their were only two houses with the power of influence to Marry her.

The irony in this is. When Kvothe showed Denna into the gardens. Her reaction to them together said much.

I think she realized that her patrons plans we're falling apart. I believe that's why she was getting beaten by her patron. He was most likely planning to produce an heir with the blood they need, and the ring they want. Not knowing that the kid he'd been playing tac with was an heir that he made his opponent years ago. (I'll get into the part Auri and her secret of being a princess play into this and the gift of three playing into the blood, Bracken, and bone thing. and the wooden ring she gave Kvothe play into this in another theory.)

Can anyone add more of the methods they curse by?

Side note. The Tracker Martin makes me laugh in hindsight. He prayed for Tehlu to shelter him in iron and anger. And Tempi was right next to him. "If you remember what Tempi means"

Theories for the actual—as in copy not story minus the foreshadowing/Easter eggs in design—4th Empyrean book (or should I say Fourth Wing FOUR)?!

I think it will be silver (thanks booktok), as it generally follows the pattern of covers that fade into one another… (leaving Silver from the bottom of Onyx Storm to become the top of the next… like smoke & flame ombré) and of course being a rather fitting color for our favorite Silver One — Which is good timing as the previous book was Xaden tailored (in its coloration title with his “Onyx eyes”, *coughs* Onyx and of course what the ending showed *ow* during that Storm)… plus maybe it would elude to a closer to peace subject? As this is rock bottom… and probably going to be a heavily Violet focused book as she’ll be quite on her own (though I also anticipate multiple POV’s more frequently) and thus hope rising from ashes (again fitting).

As far as the title goes probably two words that fit the vibe/pattern of the previous… usually it’s some kind of descriptor, and another of dragons/powers in the last… so we’ll see what fits in with Fourth Wing, Iron Flame, and Onyx Storm line up.

I have a theory…

Everyone is up and arms about the elriel v. gwynriel debate so if you get easily triggered about those ships pls avert your eyes cause I’m gonna be unapologetically brutal.

I just finished reading CC2 (ik I’m behind) and it opened my eyes to something SJM has been saying since the beginning.

Now, while reading this massive book, I had a continuing foreboding feeling that Hunt was going to be replaced by Ithan as Bryce’s love interest. Bc as we know SJM always switches up the MMC after one book or so, so I was scurred. BUT

I was pleasantly surprised to see that SJM did all in her power to reinforce the idea that these two are endgame, by having Bryce CHOOSE Hunt and vice versa — going against her arranged marriage, the royal lineage requirements, and the added complexity of mates for fae, angels, and wolves

It was refreshing to see Bryce and Hunt come together out of true love as opposed to SJM’s usual trope of “oh they were destined so they have to be together”. Don’t get me wrong, I love her other couples too - but Bryce and Hunt have always been my favs bc of this fact.

Then, imagine my surprise when I see that Bryce and Hunt CHOOSE to be mates. Simply bc the title bf & gf didn’t work for them. THEN, they’re revealed to be true mates, and their love for one another simply forged this unbreakable bond where now they have the same strength (if not stronger) then preordained mates.

Here’s where the ACOTAR ships come in…

Now…i don’t care who mrs Maas decides to put together. I have loved every single couple she has produced so ik I’ll love the next inner circle couple. BUT ik in my heart of hearts and based off of common sense that it’s going to be Elain + Azriel

(Also pls keep in mind that the ACOTAR fae are the ancestors of the CC fae, which means whatever Bryce and Hunt can feel/do/etc, first originated or was discovered in the ACOTAR world) which means this true mates thing that Bryce and Hunt have can have originated with Az & Elain

CC3 takes place after ACOSF, where we all know there are things needing to be addressed. Bryce wakes up on the lawn of the townhouse where Az is and there’s fresh bread & roses in the air…then everyone else arrives later. Meaning Az was at the townhouse by himself…with the bread & roses (Elain).

Some of y’all might think that’s a stretch or irrelevant, but I think it’s fully intentional that SJM put CC3 before the next ACOTAR book. It’s bc everyone in the ACOTAR world up until this point has followed the rules of “be with your mate and love them”, but now Bryce is there as a clear example of having a mate not chosen by some stupid bowl, but by herself and her heart. Which is something I think will strike a chord with Elain and Azriel.

Az has NEVER been chosen, and I don’t think (even if gwyn is his mate or his backup singer or whatever y’all are calling her now) he will be satisfied by someone being thrown to him, forced to love him bc of a bond. He wants them to choose to love him like his dad and Mor didn’t (sry Mor stans but she didn’t, she admitted so herself in ACOWAR)

Rhys (sry cause I also dislike him after ACOSF) is just like Bryce’s bio dad and is trying to place a barrier between the couple in the name of politics and what is usually done, but just like Bryce (I.E. WHY THERE IS A BONUS CHAPTER W HER, AZ, AND NES (THE ONLY 2 (-Rhys) WHO WILL KNOW ABOUT AZ’s FEELINGS)) Az/Elain will choose to divert that standard, motivated by the love Bryce expresses for her chosen mate, Hunt.

Plus, can I mention y’all also acted this way with Cass met Emery at the end of ACOFAS…and thought they were gonna be together before ACOSF came out and now y’all are doing the same to Gwyn. I personally think Gwyn has been traumatized beyond belief by men, and I don’t think what she needs in her life to heal from that is the man that saved her from that trauma. She doesn’t need to be saved or reminded of that time in her life anymore. Like, girl could still not bring herself to leave the house of wind at the end of ACOSF. Idk about y’all but I wouldn’t fall in love with the cop who saved me from that kind of crime, I’d move on and find love for myself.

No matter if you’re a gwynriel stan or not, we can all agree that the kiss at the end of ACOSF cannot be ignored, and this relationship between Az and Elain has been building up for THREE BOOKS. Gwyn has only been here for one. Take it from me my lovely gwynriels, and be prepared for disappointment.

NOW, where does Lucien fit in all of this? I think Lucien takes the same stance as Ithan from CC. Elain doesn’t know the sassy, caring Lucien we know bc the only interactions she’s had with him were when he sold her out to Hybern (mind you: when she was ENGAGED) and when he’s been around her bc he felt this need due to a mating bond. It’s fair that she doesn’t love him, just like it’s fair that Bryce doesn’t love Ithan. Just because there’s a bond, in whatever form, doesn’t mean that entitles another to that female’s love.

Lucien deserves someone who wants to be with him and as a fan of his character, too, I don’t want him stuck with Elain. Especially when she’s made it so clear she doesn’t want him. I think Lucien accepting Elain going with Azriel will lead him back to the Spring Court (cause it’ll still hurt, and he’ll need space) and give y’all that Tamlin redemption arc you’ve been dying for for some reason.

Either way, the answer of who is Az’s mate is a big topic, so I think SJM doing the same thing with him that she did with Bryce and Hunt in CC2 would be so bomb. Plus, she’s always said that the books she writes will be with the female at the forefront, so sry babes, there’s no Azriel book.

So book 5/6 (incl ACOFAS) in the ACOTAR world will be Elriel, then it’ll be Morr/all of the couples, and the novella will probably be Spring Court (i.e., Vaasa/Tamlin/Lucien). Don’t quote me on anything past the next ACOTAR book, I’m just guessing on those

Anyway, that’s how I think it’s going to go but I’m not the author or anything, so take this as you will

Selwyn Kane and Mythology

( Hold on cause this gets super crazy towards the end )

Ok so I’ve been meaning to post this for a while, but this is basically my findings from all of my research on the references of mythology in Legendborn, and how it relates to Sel.

Firstly, star signs. I already went over Bree’s star sign a while ago and found a lot of connections to her story so far, but Sels requires a bit more theorizing. Sel is a Gemini, whose myth begins with describing how Zeus seduced Leda by turning into a swan ( while she was pregnant ), causing her to have twins. The immortal son of Zues, Pollux, and her mortal son Castor.

When Castor is eventually killed in battle ( which probably has NOTHING to do with what’s going to happen to Sel 😃 ), Pollux begs Zeus to share some of his immortality with him, allowing them to spend half their time in the heavens, and half there time on earth.

Secondly, in Greek mythology, Nyx ( the nickname given to Natasia ) and Erebus, are married and have lots of kids, but their “main” two are Aether ( 👀 ) and Hemera, the God of light ( and the first Primordial god ) and the goddess of daylight. Now truth be told Aether and Hemera are usually depicted as either twins/siblings or husband and wife ( that’s Greek mythology for you 😭 ) but I’m pretty sure my point still stands that they’re definitely connected to Selwyn in some way.

These both hint to a few similar points but one I want to point out is that they both include twins and/or siblings, which is a bit weird considering Sel doesn’t have any siblings ( that we know of, I sincerely hope that Sel and Valec are brothers ) so I think that it represents Sels “demon” as Tracy makes of point of describing it as an actual identity for the description of what Sel is going to do during Oathbound ( like maybe it’s a double meaning of him facing his past and the actual demon trying to take over his mind ).

This could actually mean a few things, one, I feel like both of these story’s are heavily hinting at the fact that the shadow king is Sel’s dad ( I mean we know that the shadow king can shapeshift so I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Zeus shapeshifted to trick Leda into having kids with him ). But this got me thinking, why would the Shadow king go through all this trouble of killing the og Erebus, seducing Natasia, and staying in the order decades after the fact. Like it’s true that the Shadow King could’ve just loved her but I don’t feel like that’s the whole reason. Now hear me out me out cause this is a little bit crazy, but we hear how Morgraine describes that the shadow crown and the shadow king is similar to the relationship of Excalibur and Arthur and how they both are aether weapons. So what if the shadow king lost his connection to the crown once he was defeated by Arthur, and now is trying to find it again. How does this relate to Selwyn? Well what if the shadow crown gets passed down from generation to generation kinda like how each new generation of Arthur descendants have a chance to be called and wield Excalibur. But in the order the other knights descendants have to be called first, so maybe the shadow court has to come together in order for the crown to be “activated” and allow the Shadow King to find it, and maybe he thought that Natasia had a good enough chance of conceiving a child who was strong enough to potentially be the next wielder of the shadow crown or a member of the shadow court. Or maybe Natasia was such a baddie that the SK just wanted to bang 😭.

I’ve been reading the part of a court of silver flames where in chapter 57 there is a ball at the court of nightmares and when Elaine enters Cassian says this about her…

I can’t help feeling this is foreshadowing. Maybe in the next book Elaine encounters a monster that does try to suck the life from her. Does anyone else sense this or am I just reading too much into it?!

I love bouncing theories around. I truly do!

I thought of it the first time reading but then thought about it AGAIN recently.

Why don't we know Tamlin or Rhysand's last names? (Why don't we know a lot of last names, actually??)

We know Lucien's. Feyre's. Why do we only know 1 High Lord last name? (Vanserra)

I've been theorizing for a while that I believe Tamlin comes from the long line of "Whitethorn Galathynius" (blonde hair, green eyes (with gold from Ashryver), shifter). But then I thought about it again this morning.

What if he comes from Aedion and Lysandra?? Shifter, golden blonde hair, green eyes, gold flecks from Ashryver (I know Ashryver is a gold ring, but maybe that's why it's flecks for him?). So his last name could be Ashryver or COME from Ashryver down the way!

Rhysand I'm wondering if he was maybe down the Havilliard line... Dorian has raven black hair. I can't think of any other characters (other than Ruhn, but I think he's ACTUALLY directly related to Rhys somehow... like through his sister. I dont think his sister died)

I dunno! We know people descend from others in Throne of Glass (Lydia with Aelin, I certainly believe Ruhn is related to Rhys via his sister...), so I wonder if a lot of people are related to more people than we think! Which is so very possible!
