When I was in 4th grade, I climbed on something I shouldn’t have. As a result, it fell on top of me, spilt its contents (tree sap for making maple syrup) all over my face, and thankfully, only broke my left arm. My father, who was fortunately outdoors near me at the time, heard his and saved me. I honestly don’t know how he remained so calm. I really only remembers telling the EMT that he would NOT cut my Winnie the Pooh sweater. I was very adamant about that. Needless to say, he listened. Once in the hospital, the X-ray guy wanted to move my arm out for another angle. I said if he touched my arm, I would knock him out. Dad said I wouldn’t touch her if I were you. He didn’t. Anywho, after a cast was applied I was sent home with a check up and recast date. I had a cast on for 8 weeks. My elbow, by the end wouldn’t move. I went through PT and got most of the movement back. However, I still have a fairly significant bend in that elbow at all times. I have grown used to it over the years. Today, I watched my handstands on video because I have this PAIN in my right shoulder since I have been really working on them. Turns out, that left arm bend is making my right should compensate and dump, sacrificing the integrity of my shoulders. I folded a towel, placed it under my left hand to raise it just a bit, and Tada! The pain wasn’t there. It was a nice discovery for the end of the month. The take away here is first, listen to your dad when he tells you not to do something. Secondly, listen to your body and ADJUST and USE PROPS when things are painful and don’t seem to quite work. Third, (as in my last video) when you fall, get up, adjust, and try again. #yogi #bopoyoga #everybodyisayogabody #practiceyogachangeyourworld #lifelessons #propsarecool (at Honolulu, Hawaii)
