A scene from a Chaeya fic I wanted to write but have no motivation to. Maybe one day...
Traveler: "No, I just... I don't get it, I suppose? You're never usually this hostile, even to someone on the opposing faction. Cold? Sure yeah, that's nothing new. Hostile is a new look on you,"
Kaeya: "...You've heard of the incident that resulted in my father's death, right? Adoptive, I mean,"
Traveler: "Well- yeah... I have. Fatui's doing. I get that. It's just- You're close friends with a god that aided in the massacre of your entire bloodline. I just didn't peg you for the type of guy to hold that kind of grudge,"
Kaeya, laughing a bit: "I suppose that's true. It wasn't Venti's fault for Khaenri'ah's fate and I can tell he carries a heavy guilt regarding it. I don't see the need to hold it against him. Sounds tiring,"
Traveler: "Then why is Childe different? He's basically the same age as you, meaning he would've only been in the ranks for a short while, let alone play any role in your- uh. Your father's incident,"
Kaeya stops walking causing Traveler to pause as well.
Kaeya: "What if I told you he just rubs me the wrong way?"
Traveler: "...What do you mean?"
Kaeya: "There's... Something about him. It screams familiarity but in an uncomfortable way. It's like he knows something about me that I don't want him to know," he grimaced. "It's gross. Feels like my skin crawls every single time he glances at me,"
Traveler: "You know what. I get that. His eyes are pretty... Dead,"
Traveler starts walking again
Traveler: "But... I hope you can trust my judgement on this. He's a good guy,"
Kaeya: "He's a harbinger."
Traveler, wincing a bit: "Okay fair. But he's not as bad as people make him out to be. Underneath all that bloodlust and craze and world domination, he's actually a pretty normal guy,"
Kaeya: "That's a lot of things to look past, traveler,"
Traveler, smiling: "You'll see it once you get to know him,"
Kaeya: "I find that I don't want to do that, actually. I prefer my relationship with him to be a professional transaction,"
Traveler: "That's fair too. Just tolerate each other, yeah? I need this domain cleared without any of my friends' abdomen being impaled by each other,"
Kaeya: "If that's your request, you know I'll always oblige,"
Traveler, laughing: "Ever the charmer,"
