Extremely well. They're both smart & open-hearted people persons and naturally gravitate towards each other!

They're both idealists in that they'd never betray their values and always stand up for what they believe in. It's their defining trait. But at the same time they're deeply grounded in their life aboard a ship, with all the harsh realities that come with that on a daily basis. No nonsense and all that. Starfleet oath on one side, hippocratic oath on the other. I can see them talking and joking, maybe drinking, for hours after a particularly long and draining shift, Macca is a bit more pensive, a bit calmer though. While Chris is the typical heroic lead. But it's their differences that make them a good team. And both are very lucky with the ladies/gents ofc. Those smiles. So tall & handsome it's almost cliché.

What's funny is that the original Chris Pike from TOS is very chummy with the Enterprise's doctor, Boyce. They have regular chats and Boyce helps Pike through at least one existential crisis. I could totally see Macca doing that just as well.
