As the client for this project is a peer/friend of mine, we tend to not talk very professionally, and often using abriviations and in way/including words and terms that will be best explained.
Hence before analysing the brief, I will explain everything and everything said in the screenshots, one by one.
Here is the first screenshot. The client (my close friend Talisman, who I will refer to as 'Tali' or 'Talisman' for simplicities sake.) is giving me the basics of the brief. However as they haven't exactly written out a brief before, I ended up asking for a little extra information and clarified a few things about what they need to write to ensure I have a clear brief to base the work off, and to analyse.
In the second screenshot, Tali explains she is not very well versed about comics, hence gives me pretty much no limitations or restrictions. She simply asks that I colour the text like in the beginning of their fanfic. (FANFIC: A fanfic is a written work based on a piece of media, most often based outside the canon of the media made for the creator's and fandom's enjoyment. Fanfics are a large part of fandom culture online) . She also explains her AU (alternative Universe) and the basics of simply "why" she wishes for me to do the comics.
Here Talisman is explaining what she meant with the "beginning of the fanfic". The two of us are going back and forth, as I got a little confused. She is also showing me the dialouge that she wished for me to reference.
Here is the fourth screenshot. Tali started explaining the panels and general way she envisions ways to be placed. The one above is ,as said by Tali, the near end of the "Prince Ali" song where Jafar slams the door to stop Aladdin from entering the palace.
Here Tali explains how they would like the panels to look/what to have within them. Explaining them one by one. They also sent a GIF to explain one of the panels.
Here Talisman ,aside from doing a rough breakdown of how they wish the layout to look, also did doodles to basically show how they wish for the panels to look. This is very helpful, as it allows me to know what they wish to be the vocal point in each panel. This visual is for the balcony scene with the Genie from the song, in this case the Coven Head characters from the Owl House take place of the Genie. I also express my excitement using a GIF of Mabel from Gravity Falls as one of my favourite characters were featured in the sketch.
Here (aside from a small joke about one of the panels) I ensure to tell Talisman that I will be asking for her opinion and approval for each concept design, final design and comic page process. I also asked about what Tali would like for the beginning of the fic page, as I mentioned I do not mind doing an extra one, as I originally thought I'd have to do multiple pages for each scene. However they clarify that I do not have to do said scene.
And for the final screenshot, Talisman simply reiterates that I do not have to do the beginning, and explaining that the single pages were made with me inmind, which I greatly appriciate.
