News reporter: This just in Random Mcpersonson was seen kicking a baby today.

[TV shows random person running up and kicking a baby like a football]

Velvet: [gasps, covering mouth] That's horrible.

Milkshake: Relax, it's just fake news.

Cuddle: How do you know that?

Milkshake: Think about it, it just makes no sense. Why would someone do that?

Liam: Because people are weird and sometimes they do messed up things?

Milkshake: Well I could never do something like that.

Liam: But-

Milkshake: [gasps] Would YOU kick a baby?

Liam: [flailing hands around] What? No! Of course not!

Cuddle: Even if you wouldn't do it it doesn't mean someone else will.

Milkshake: So YOU would kick a baby?

Cuddle: I DON'T EVEN HAVE LEGS!

Milkshake: but if you did you would kick a baby?

Velvet: NO ONE HERE IS KICKING BABIES!

Sammy: [shrugs]

Milkshake: You would kick a baby?

Sammy: depends. Is it an evil baby?

Liam: what do you mean by that Sammy?

Sammy: Like is it a baby that is destined to do something super evil when they grow up and kicking it would stop the evil?

Velvet: That would make Random Mcpersonson a time traveler!

Sammy: Exactly.

Liam: NO! NOT EXCATLY! THERE'S NO EVIL BABY IN THIS SITUATION!

Sammy: That's just what the evil baby wants you to think.

Milkshake: Never thought of it that way.

Cuddle: [burying face in hands] How did we get to this?

Looking at the stars... looking for you.

I am looking for some constructive criticism on this one.

I've been thinking that for the style for my story Broken, I wanted the characters to have brighter, non-muted colors against muted, liminal-space inspired backgrounds.

I wanted to test that theory in an art piece, so I made this. Porlina often enjoys gazing at the stars, as it reminds her of a certain someone she used to know.

Some things I really want critique on/want to know are:

Does the character stand out against the background?

Composition

Background

Detail

Scale (for context, she's a 16-inch porcelain doll sitting in a field)

Does the background feel liminal?

Broken Height Chart + Character Reference Sheet

Here's the character reference sheet for Broken that I intend to hopefully use for a long while and hopefully I don't end up wanting to redesign them again. That said at present I am very satisfied with these designs! ^^ I hope you all like them as well!

Constructive Criticism is welcome, let me know what you like and what I can improve! (specifically, please)

I want these characters and the story as a whole to have a vintage children's book vibe to it. I'm thinking of stories like the Velveteen Rabbit, the Raggedy Ann and Andy books, the Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, the old Winnie the Pooh movies, Beatrix Potter, etc etc. I mean mainly the vintage picture books I used to read growing up, as one of my family members had a large collection of them, which I know the internet has no way of knowing which books I read in particular but that's the general vibe I'm going for with these designs if that makes sense. Broken is meant to be like a children's imaginative fairytale like the stories mentioned... and yet still be somewhat grounded in reality.

Random silly pen doodle, I thought up while imagining character interactions. Liam and Sammy are best friends, and like idk I do this with my key ring all the time (including the accidental flinging it across the room). And then I imagined how that would work with a LIVING keychain and burst out laughing and like I HAD to draw it. 😆

BTW these two are from my series Broken they are fellow living toys that the main cast encounters on their journey! ^^

Personally I love to move my hands side to side rather than up and down when stimming like this. (She canonically has adhd btw).

Trying one of those "animated/told with doodles" storytime videos I watched throughout middle school (think Emichiru, Wolfychu, and Jaiden Animations) but with the time I set my carpet on fire as a kid 😅😅😅

Making some short animatics of old retired oc lore because it needs to be used somewhere right?

Making a new banner showcasing some ocs from when I was growing up and some ocs from now.

Making stickers of retired oc designs because they are cute.

Making fanart of Shisui from the Apothecary Diaries in all her different identities.
