🔱 AESTHETIC: Sandalpunk/Bronzepunk

yesterday i talked about one of the primary aesthetics of A WONDERFUL DANGANRONPA: "salvagepunk" or "rustpunk." a Mad Max or Fallout kind of feel.

but there's other kinds of visuals i'm lifting, too. for example: ancient Greco-Roman styles, for a retro-futurist look.

sci-fi + Greco-Roman = something called "sandalpunk" or "bronzepunk." the OG Clash of the Titans is something like this.

in particular, this game's trial grounds will likely resemble an ancient Greek theater, including stands for an audience...

(note! you historians out there might say that it's reductive to say "Greco-Roman" and that those two things are completely different, and i tend to agree, but i'm not going for accuracy, just an overall vibe! in-universe this aesthetic is a reconstruction anyway, not a historical continuation: again, think Caesar's Legion from Fallout. bits and pieces out of time.)

Today, I’m giving you all a WIP sketch dump of Dea Roma, or Roma, the youngest daughter of Jupiter Zeus and Juno Hera. To describe Roma’s role in Legendary Fugitives, her role is similar to Crosshair in The Bad Batch. Roma is very upset that a certain event to celebrate her becoming a Parthenos was ruined and was overshadowed by Athena’s and Mars’s fight and accidental death of the Caesar. Thus, she’s chasing her disowned siblings across the Empire.

Bronzepunk- Think steampunk and teslapunk mixed together, but everything is built on a bronze empire, mechanical dragons and beasts, bronze Armour, mechanical bronze animals used as messengers or war machines, transportation is a series of bronze built air machines or walkways connecting everything. Big cities and Grey clouds, clockpunk elements as well. The era is more so towards steampunk in style, but inspired by the Greeks and Romans.

Goodbye November, Hello December! To kick off the Festivities for the Legendary Challenge, Drawing 11, we got Hephaestus Vulcan.

For Hephaestus, I mixed his depictions from ancient art, famous paintings, and statues, and threw in some steampunk details. I'm glad Hullaballoo FINALLY came out and helped inspire Hephaestus gear. For some reason, I even love how Hephaestus's robotic C-3PO prosthetic leg reminds me of John Solo's video of The Revenge of Hephaestus and the version of the robotic prosthetic leg. I also found a book illustration that influenced Hephaestus's apron, belt, and scars. There are other forms of media I took inspiration from. Still, I like to ensure I don't copy anyone else's design, even by accident. I got worried that he looked a little similar to NeOlympus's version of Hephaestus with the pose and other details. So, a friend and I discussed how I should make the changes to stay original.

To describe what I have in store for Hephaestus is this. What if everything is slowly falling apart in your life? You don't think you and your spouse and children are not safe. Will you try to stay together as much as possible until you are ripped away from your family and who knows is going to happen to them, or convince your family to take the jump to start over your lives with better company but risk those you worked with coming after you and your family. What would you do? Let's say he was a part of making something that would haunt him for the rest of his life.

This may not be his final design, but I'll keep him like this for now. Now it's the twin's turn to shine and party! Apollo and Artemis!

I finally got to set up a separate account for a story I'm working on. I don't knowow long it will take me since I started writing some stuff on the side. I do aim for this to be a comic series.

Content Warning: This Story is for mature audiences only (16-18+). 16+ if you can handle the dark themes. These themes will include toxic cult culture, war, blood, terrible families, assault, abuse, messed up Greek/Roman mythology, and more that will be added down the road. If that upsets you, you are free not to read.

The Story for those discovering this for the first time: In an alternate universe where the Roman Empire Industrialized, preventing them from crashing and burning, the Goddess and God of War, Pallas Athena and Mars Ares, go on an existential crisis run after being involved in the death of the previous Caesar thanks to a petty owl and hungry lion. Due to this mess and a growing rebellion, Athena and Mars are joined by unlikely potential heroes who become fugitives. Now, with the Industrial Roman Empire and the other Olympian Gods after them, how can these Legendary Fugitives' lives worsen?
