"Mr Wayne." Grace was a little taken aback, not having expected 'The Bruce Wayne' to take the time to say hello. At a charity gala like this, she was sure that everyone must be vying for his attention. She was hardly worth his interest.

But of course, he wasn't just 'The Bruce Wayne', CEO and billionaire of the Gotham Elite. He was also Jason's father. Adopted, sure. But it still counted, despite the strained way Jason spoke whenever the matter came up. Maybe that was why.

"All good things. I hope." She smiled, unsure if this was a handshake kind of moment or not. "It's nice to meet you."

“I can’t help you if you don’t let me!”

Bruce gritted his teeth, ready to shrug Clark off again. Ready to push himself back up, and keep going. They weren't done yet. Couldn't be done yet. There were people who still needed help. And he needed to check up on --

Even slow, getting up had his head spinning, and this time, he couldn't quite hide it from Clark's pointed gaze. Bruce reached towards the nearest wall to hold himself up. “I'll be fine,” he grunted under his breath. “Took a hit, but I can,” Bruce paused for a moment, taking the time to straighten himself completely, meeting Clark's gaze. “I've had worse, Superman.”

Clark kept watching him sternly, before fixing his gaze on Batman’s chest and scanning with his x-ray vision. It look a lot of self-control not to let his gaze drift up to the man’s face -- but if he wouldn’t reveal his identity to Batman, he owed him the same courtesy of privacy.

“You have three broken ribs,” he confirmed quietly, as his vision flicked back to normal. “I’m sure you’ve had worse. But if you push yourself, it definitely will be worse. I’ve got this, Batman.”

Tim met his gaze, trying not to give in. Eventually he sighed in defeat, shoulders slumping as he handed over the paper from his school, with a half-written forged signature on it. What would Bruce get more upset about? The fact that he hadn’t shown the paper? That he tried to forge his signature? Or that Tim was putting ‘too much time’ on being a vigilante?

“I didn’t want to bother you. I still get good grades, so I don’t see the problem.” That was just partly true, not the grades one, since he did indeed get top grades, but that he didn’t see the problem. Tim could understand why his school felt a need to contact Bruce, but still. He didn’t want to be benched. Didn't want Bruce to regret making him Robin.

Joker felt his cheeks pinching with a wide and predatory grin. The raspy chuckle emanating from his chest barely caught in his throat, too raw from all the screaming, his shoulders shaking from the weight of it.

How funny.

Still, as he looked up to the silhouetted figure that was the Batman, it was reverence in his voice that came through the most.

“Better...at least” He expected Bruce to shout but he guessed he’d got his point across, he’d never met to do this underhandedly, simply calmly and with little fuss.

“I haven’t heard from him or seen him for about a fortnight now, but I’m sure he’ll want to meet again at some point, I have noticed he still doesn't eat properly, he’s still stubborn, ... just like his father” Alfred almost affectionately muttered that last part.

“But he’s grown as you’ve seen, he’s badly traumatized and has no real direction but he’s trying Bruce, He’s trying to getting himself together and look at the bigger picture, he was reluctant to talk about you at first, but as of our last meeting, he’s opening up, he looked up to so much and we let him down, he was just finding his feet in a whole new world from those cold streets and-” he couldn't bring himself to say it. 

He stands to turn off the desk light and move closer to Bruce. “I’m happy to tell you what we have been talking about if you wish he hasn't forbid me to say- but those wounds are going to take a long time to heal-”

Alfred brings his hand up to Bruce’s shoulder as he talks, fingers brushing the spot where he’d pulled two bullet’s from the previous month. He was still upset Jason had harmed Bruce and Dick like that...but he’d made peace with that. Jason felt guilty enough he didn't need to add to it. “We need to take it one stitch at a time”
