“I know you don’t like me for her.” They told Anne, once Lucy was way out of earshot; saying those words out loud and to the doll no less felt strange enough, but if Lucy actually heard it, Gin might even try to hide their head underground like an ostrich.
Anne may not be able to speak, and they were by no means as able to read her as the room’s owner, but that didn’t mean her judgement wasn’t noticeable. It could be because she was being obvious as one could be, or due to how being at their most expressive was something Gin too reserved for those the closest to them and the common ground facilitated some sort of communication. The point was, there was no doubt. Besides, Anne could still nod, and she swiftly went on to confirm Gin’s words with one.
“I know. I shouldn’t want this, but…” But hanging out with Lucy, who likely had figured out their former ties to the mafia and didn’t seem to care, was one of the few respites Gin had found after--
After everything that had happened.
After they had pushed Ryûnosuke away, knife in hand, and not so long after their execution had gotten postponed just because was now dead, and his plans followed him to the grave.
“I don’t want to lose this.” Gin then admitted, after a deep sigh born from both their reminiscing and gathering the courage to say those words too. After all, for all they knew, Anne might tell everything to Lucy even if she wasn’t there to hear it, or perhaps she could hear anything Anne did or… well, too late for second-guessing, right? “And I’m determined to treat her right. I mean, she’s my first friend in so many years, so…”
There was no need to keep wondering, because either Lucy had managed to hear it all or gotten back there in order to at least witness the last part.
“You won’t.” The redhead said, basically launching herself towards Gin and pulling them into a tight hug they instantly reciprocated to, hungry for that kind of affection after so damn long.
