i loved writing this as a jungkook bias ugh i love my little awkward bean
Jungkook sat across from you in the living room, sitting up awkwardly straight as his large hands rested on his knees, not knowing what to really do with them. Across him, sitting on the couch, was you, fresh out of the hospital with the love of your life nestled comfortably in your arms.
Junghyun had his small eyes closed, the comfort of his mother’s arms and scent lulling him to sleep.
You and Jungkook had been home for thirty minutes. And for those thirty minutes, while you interacted with your son, humming to him and stroking his head, Jungkook watched with wide eyes.
He felt as though an alien was making a home in the arms of his fiancé. The people at the hospital told them how to get home safely with the new baby, but what they don’t tell you is what to do once you get home. Junghyun was far too young to be playing video games. He was too fragile to dance with.
Jungkook didn’t know what the hell to do.
You looked up from your son, a look of pure bewilderment on your face. “Jungkook,” you said softly, wary of waking up Junghyun. Jungkook’s eyebrows raised at the sound of your voice, looking over at you. “Yeah?” he whispered.
“Can you hold him? I really want to shower. I feel disgusting,” you explained. If it was even possible, Jungkook’s eyes widened. You chuckled, getting off of the couch and making your way over to your extremely anxious fiancée. Jungkook positioned his arms in the correct manner as you placed your baby in the arms of your even larger baby.
Leaning farther down, your lips grazed over his ear.
“He’s your son. No need to be nervous,” you whispered, before placing a kiss right beside his ear. You gave a parting smile before making your way down the hall. Jungkook swallowed hard as he looked down at his son.
He didn’t really know what to do, but as Junghyun’s eyes began to slowly open, Jungkook for some reason felt at ease. He didn’t seem to be judging him, so Jungkook figured he was doing okay.
“Well, if you’re going to stay here,” Jungkook started as he stood up, holding his son carefully. “You should at least know where everything is.” Starting in the kitchen, Jungkook explained everything to him. “Here’s where mommy cooks a lot of the meals. It’s nice and bright in here, right?” Jungkook asked as he looked down at his son, who was surely looking around, but didn’t really follow what his dad was saying.
“And this is the living room, where-”
Jungkook stopped talking immediately when Junghyun began to cry. It was high pitched and kind of annoying, but all Jungkook could do was feel bad because he thought his tour guide skills were so horrible that it made his son cry.
In a panic, he speed walked to the bedroom, opening the adjoining bathroom door.
“He’s crying and I don’t know what to do. Did I make him cry? His something wrong?” Jungkook asked hurriedly, looking over at your naked figure in the shower, walls made of clear glass surrounding you.
You figured that he was just hungry or he needed his diaper changed, so you really didn’t make that big of a deal out of it.
Sighing, you wiped the water off of your face.
“Give me a second. Just go into the bedroom,” you said, trying to wash the soap off of your body as quickly as possible. Just as quickly as he entered the bathroom, Jungkook left, a wailing Junghyun in his arms.
You stepped out of the shower and put your robe on, ringing out your hair onto the bath mat so that it wouldn’t drip around the house as much.
Opening the bathroom door, you found Jungkook pacing the room while your son screamed at the top of his lungs. At the sound of the door opening, Jungkook’s wide eyes shot up as his legs stopped moving.
“Here, give him to me,” you said in a soft voice, walking over to him. You carefully took your son from Jungkook and sat at the bottom of the bed. Holding him up, you sniffed around his lower half to smell if he had pooped, and when you smelt nothing but the infamous baby smell, you realized he was just hungry.
You held him in one arm as you took one breast out of your robe, aligning the nipple with Junghyun’s mouth.
And as he ate, you slowly looked up to see Jungkook watching you. You couldn’t figure out why his face looked like that, but you didn’t like it.
“You don’t have to look at me like that,” you mumbled, feeling insecure, as you looked back down awkwardly at your son. “Oh, I’m sorry,” he said, coming to sit next to you.
He knew that he hurt your feelings, and though he didn’t know why, he figured that maybe changing the subject would be best.
“I gave him a house tour,” Jungkook suddenly spoke, a grin on his lips. You looked up, amused. “Really?” He nodded.
“I showed him the kitchen and all the food,” he said. And even though you knew a tour did nothing since Junghyun wouldn’t remember it, you could see how happy it made Jungkook knowing that he did something the baby might have liked, so you tolerated it.
“That’s a good thing to do. He knows where everything is now,” you said in a light tone, a sweet smile on your lips. Jungkook felt proud of himself, a cute boyish smile forming on his lips.
“Well, I only got to the living room before he started crying,” Jungkook explained. You nodded. “Well, you can show him the rest of the house after he’s done,” you said.
And after Junghyun finished eating, you smiled as you watched Jungkook leave the room with him, excitement all over his face as he pointed out the various pieces of art on the walls.
You allowed Jungkook to spend a few hours with his son, just showing him all of his games and all of his various equipment, but when Junghyun began to get tired, you told Jungkook that he could put him to bed. Anxiously, Jungkook placed his infant son in his crib, watching him with careful eyes.
“And he just sleeps like this?” he asked, turning to look at you. You nodded. “He’ll sleep for a few hours, but no doubt will he wake up in a few hours,” you pointed out. He nodded slowly, understanding. Leaning over the bars of the crib, you kissed his small forehead. Jungkook reached in and rubbed his stomach.
You lingered in the doorway as Jungkook gazed down at his son with eyes filled with a whole different kind of love than the way that he looked at you with.
Eventually, Jungkook followed you out of the nursery and into the bed. You crawled into bed, and after Jungkook changed, he followed suit.
“Jungkook?” you asked, turning to look at him as he turned off his lamp. A deep hum emitted from his throat.
“Why are you so nervous around Junghyun?” you asked, curious. Jungkook turned to look at you. “I just...I don’t want to hurt him. He’s so tiny that I feel like if I move the wrong way it’ll hurt him,” he explained in a low voice. You nodded understandingly. “Well, he is a baby and he is fragile, but there’s nothing he loves more than being in the arms of his dad,” you said softly, reaching out to stroke the side of Jungkook’s face.
“Plus, what if he doesn’t like me?”
You sat up, gently straddling Jungkook’s lap as you held his face with both hands, forcing him to look at you.
“He loves you, Kook. As parents, we all make mistakes. I’ll make mistakes and you’ll make mistakes, too, that’s just a fact. But we learn as we go. And no matter what, Junghyun will always love you,” you explained, looking at him with soft eyes.
He nodded, closing his eyes as he leaned in to kiss you. The kiss was sweet yet passionate, as it had been a while since the two of you had been alone. But just as Jungkook’s tongue swiped across your bottom lip, the screams and cries of Junghyun rang through the baby monitor, causing you and Jungkook to quickly pull away.
“Welcome to parenthood, darling,” you joked, getting off of him. Just as you stood up to go care for your son, Jungkook gently grabbed your arm, pulling you back down on the bed. “I’ll go get him,” he said confidently with a smile. You willingly got back into bed, pleasantly shocked with how confident he was.
You turned over to watch the baby cam and smirked when you saw Jungkook approach the crib, not an anxious bone in his body. He picked up the crying infant, gently rocking him as he walked around the room. Though it was quiet, the soft and melodic voice of your fiancée played through the speakers of the device.
And surely, within a few minutes, Junghyun was back asleep.
Jungkook continued singing to him momentarily for good measure before placing him back into his crib and coming back to the bedroom.
“And that’s how it’s done,” Jungkook cockily said as he widened his arms, a smirk on his lips. You playfully rolled your eyes. “Don’t get a big head,” you warned, causing Jungkook to chuckle and get back into bed with you.
