Hi I want to talk about this quora writer who is famous on quora for writing about bts and she is a member's cousin and knows about there dating life and everything. She does sound legit on the info she gives and have many followers.you might find her on top of any bts related qora question. Do you think she is actually legit and saying true or false?

If Namjoon's cousin is talking openly about all members private life not only would that be a clear risk and I expect them to warn her or cut her off. (Why keep letting a person get sensitive information if you know who they are). But also to begin with that is an extremely shitty thing to do to someone you claim to be close to. Also why would she have so much information even if she is Namjoon's cousin? Not to mention she speaks in English. Doesn't even seem to understand Korean. I don't trust it for many reasons but mostly because if it's easy to trace who they are and if they are a real threat and violates the boys' privacy then they wouldn't be allowed to continue.

(Also she has the most crazy stories ever, you don't have to look hard to see how much she lies).

Not to mention rumors about the boys in general contradict each other all the time, even when some info ends up being legit. I don't trust any rumors because we never know how reliable the sources are, has information been misunderstood, twisted or made up... What reason could they have to spread certain information. For example haters often try to spread false information to create hate towards an idol they want to ruin. I think this person just likes the attention. Either that or they are a horrible person who basically constantly betray the trust of their own cousin. And Big Hit and Namjoon would be dumb enough to let her keep going. And no, her being on an English site wouldn't mean the company wouldn't find it considering how big and for how long she has been doing this. Even if some of it would be proven to be real it doesn't mean everything else is as well. I refuse to support and spread private information that are not something the boys have agreed to share themselves.

Don't trust rumors, trust the boys. Because if they aren't sharing they aren't sharing for a reason and have the right to keep it private.

If it wasn’t him.... then why take legal action over CCTV footage that doesn’t contain your artist?

How do you deal with instances where you see other Vmin shippers spreading misinformation in aid of our ship? I haven’t yet come across anything, that was clearly manipulated, but rather seemed to be based on a misunderstanding of the situations in question. Most of the time it’s just blowing minor things out of proportion. Still, it makes me uneasy and I find myself wanting to clarify things, but I don’t, because it ultimately feels like a fruitless endeavour.

Most of the time (because it happens quite a lot) I try to explain shortly that they seem to have misunderstood. Because as you say, I think people misunderstand and then that misunderstanding spreads as truth.

I think the most common one with Vmin is that they were high school friends, which is true, but then people assumed that meant they knew each other before joining Big Hit. Which isn’t true. Taehyung was already a trainee and knew all the other members before Jimin. When Jimin came to Seoul and became a trainee he transferred to the same school as Tae. So he got to the dorm and became a trainee and then he started going to school with Taehyung and they became really close friends. But they wouldn’t have met and become high school friends if Jimin hadn’t gotten through at the Big Hit audition. So, things like that tend to show up. Nothing really harmful, but not true either.

Sadly as you say it can sometimes feel like a fruitless endeavour and a hopeless task, but if I can I still try to clarify things if I can.

There is a saying that goes like this:

“The rumor has already run a lap around the world when the truth has finished putting on their shoes.“

And it’s so true, especially when it’s something you want to believe. And so false rumors spread and becomes well known “facts”. Mostly it’s rather harmless, but it’s still bothering me when other vmin shippers use false things to hype vmin. Because there is so much good stuff that is real. I think people really need to learn how to fact check more properly and realize that sometimes it’s really difficult to get a confirmed source at all.

This is also one of the reasons I think “analysis videos” can sometimes be harmful because you present your moments as facts, and often manipulate how they look like by cutting away things, zooming in or removing sounds etc. Basically taking things out of context and creating your own explanation and presenting it not as an opinion or interpretation but as “this is how it is” kind of moment.

I try to be very clear when I talk about my own interpretations to not make it seem like it’s a fact. Often it can be really difficult to know when something is a rumor and when things are confirmed, and personally I always try to find the source. But I am sure some of the things I say can be based on false rumors sometimes too, because so many talk about them and the sources are basically impossible to find sometimes. But yeah, if I see a definite false statement about Vmin, I usually try to tell them politely.

Thanks for the ask. This is actually a huge problem when a fandom gets as big as ARMY. But I still think we should all try to spread real info and try to be as source critical as possible. :) <3
