I think 9×17 and 9×18 titles are not what buddie shippers believe they are about.
Listen- I am a devoted buddie shipper. I have been in the fandom for a couple of years but I have picked up on stuff. I listen to the famous buddie system pod (huge fan of their work). And although they've told us to stop dooming I just don't see buddie happening in any time soon.
Season 7 can be seen as sort of a reboot for the series. That means so far we are on the season 2 finale with bi Buck. We can see something happening about Eddie but I think that writers are not gong to dive into this narrative. We are ready for it but we are not the majority. ABC doesn't care about us. We are the loud minority, actually.
Also the series is not about buddie. It's about the whole bunch of other characters too. When 911 was on fox we've got insight into main characters with Hen, Chimney, Bobby, Athena, Eddie and Buck-begins. Which were all great. We love these characters. We empathize with them because we know about their journeys. 118 used to be a family that we were closely acquainted with. But we still have to learn a lot about Harry and we don't know squat about Ravi! That's why I think the finale is going to be about Harry and/or May/Ravi.
Buddie shippers are in the clowning mode about these titles. They seem promising. But remember they were promising before too?
So I ask of your to stop clowning. Shipping used to be fun! We should create. We should write fanfiction and make art. We should create our safe space for buddiemaxxing and be content with the crumbs we've already received (we even got our own buddiesode — mind it).
It's just that clowning and having our hopes and dreams crushed afterwards hurts too much. It feels like spn finale all over again. I've seen so many people post about them stopping watching because of the buddie queerbait of it all. Before anything happened! We didn't even get the feelings realization from either of them. There's no queerbait. Maybe it's just a slowburn. Maybe nothing will come out of it and Eddie will settle with some stranger woman. Who knows. Anything can happen in this show. Even the dead wife doppleganger storyline. Maybe in the finale we're getting that strange sperm donor kid plot that Oliver was talking about. But buddie is definitely not happening in any time soon. They have the potential but it may be explored in a really slow way. The writers have a lot to unpack. I hope as much as you do that it's not too slow. So maybe until anything has happened don't get your hopes up?
I get that maybe if I am that sad about it I shouldn't be in the fandom spaces this much. But is clowning benefiting any of us?

Have you been doom scrolling 9-1-1 Tumblr wondering why Buddie isn't canon yet? 😩 If you've ever yelled 🗣️ "queerbait" into the fandom void or spiraled about the Buddie timeline, put the phone down. We did the homework so you don't have to.
Han, Cil, and Rachel are joined by Alexa Donne — YA thriller author, TV industry distribution professional, and 9-1-1 obsessed Buddie Truther — to break down why the Fox to ABC move changed everything for Bisexual Buck, Gay Eddie, and Buddie Canon, and why Tim Minear has been the captain of the Buddie ship all along, and why understanding how broadcast network television works will make you a much calmer, happier Buddie fan. You're welcome! 😉
We dissect the fundamentals: the big four networks, 📺 how advertising actually drives creative decisions, and why the live+7 streaming numbers and key demographic data 📊 are what actually keep this show on the air — not your IMDB rating. We explore the very important difference between what the suits care about and what fandom THINKS the suits care about — and spoiler, they are not the same.
We get into the “Will They Won't They” math from Bones to Castle, including episode counts and timelines. We break it all down and by the end of it you will understand exactly where Buddie sits on the spectrum of iconic procedural slow burns — a reason to trust the process rather than abandon ship. 🚢🫡
We also explore what it actually means that 9-1-1 is laying the groundwork for Gay Eddie and canon Buddie — not just for the show, but for queer representation on network television at large. 🙌🏼 This isn't just a ship, this is potentially groundbreaking television, and the people making it are crafting these stories with intention and care.
Which brings us to the moral of the story: the man who has been making network television since 1995, got his show saved and moved to a new network where he immediately got a bisexual storyline ON SCREEN, called himself a Buddie fan in the Washington Post, and described us as one of his lifelines — that man knows exactly what he wants the endgame to be. Tim Minear’s taking the scenic route, waiting to make it happen when the time and narrative is right, and as any good showrunner knows, that's the smartest play on network TV. Sit back, enjoy the ride through the country, and take a Buddie with you.
And last, but certainly not least... Sometimes it's not just about the destination, but the Buddies you make along the way! 💞
Wow, what a day! 💗 All our love to Kenny, Ryan, and Oliver for being absolute sweethearts, it was unforgettable meeting all of you.
