Thoughts on Delena (half out of curiosity, half cause I'm evil)

Epic Shrug?

Delena… kinda came out of nowhere, at first? One second Damon is just fucking around with pretending to be into Elena as part of his plan to mess with Stefan and then suddenly by the end of Season 1 he’s in love with her? Just what is so amazing about this woman? Oh, and then there was their retconned first meeting before Stefan even saw her.

I don’t hate it, but I’m not a fan. The writers never really followed through on letting Damon become a better person because of his love for Elena or to be worthy of Elena - they’d always start the process up and then have him backslide or screw things up or whatever and then they’d get back together anyway and just… neh.

I’m not a huge fan of Elena to begin with (I don’t hate her and oh man some of the hate she gets is way out of line) but she is not a very appealing character to me and so that’s another part of it. But I just… *snooze* on the subject of Elena. It’s just not my thing and probably won’t be.

I don’t think it’s super toxic - I mean it has its bad moments, but so do all the relationships on The Vampire Diaries, so…

I would much prefer Bamon and Elena goes and finds happiness with someone who isn’t a Salvatore (and let’s keep her a vampire because I’ll never understand why she wanted to be human again so bad. I’d *love* to be a TVD-style vampire).

WHERE TO BEGIN. i admire you so, so much. first of all, your follow-through on the analysis of every episode of btvs and now ats is impressive. your meta is always so engaging and interesting. you have such a cool way of viewing the show, thinking of little plot holes and details that i’ve missed in my several rewatches. for example, i’m still kinda reeling over the idea that giles should have taken rat!amy before the council. someone knew how to turn that poor child back into a human but no! one! did!

also - your ability to articulate your opinions with precision and to stick to them when you get push back is enviable. you have a strong sense of self and that’s not always easy to come by so it’s really awesome and empowering to see, you know?
