I feel like the only main character with a real storyline left is Daenerys? Now I'm scared of what the writers have left for her, after ep3 they are capable of doing anything only for shock value
You’re not far off, anon. I’d say Sansa and definitely Arya got boosts in episode three, so I expect a lot of time paid to the pair of them. I’d still argue Jon is a main character - just that his entire purpose in the story has shifted.
Once, being Rhaegar’s son meant that he was likely the prince that was promised… but now that the show established that prophecy is more or less meaningless (as is trying to interpret it), all Jon’s surname means now is that he’s the rightful heir and Dany is not. So, now this character who never wanted to be king is being shoved into a dramatic political plot.
So cool. So shocking. So intriguing. (🙄)
The reason I was so invested in this show, personally, was the potential there. Foreshadowing was a key element that seemed to clue you in to events to come. It’s no longer about patience and reward, no longer about proper payoff - it’s about shock.
Going into season 8, I felt absolute confidence that based on everything we knew about Jon and Dany, neither would go mad, neither would betray the other.
But everything I thought I knew about the show was stripped from me at the end of episode three, and along with it, any hope or investment I had for where it goes. The only reason I personally have left to even sit in front of that TV on Sundays is to just cross my fingers and hope they don’t turn an established sane woman mad, or make a good man kill the woman he loves for a chair.
Lastly, while I have a foreboding feeling personally - please don’t take my words to heart. Everything I thought I knew about the show has been proven wrong thus far, so perhaps my fear that they’ll butcher two of my favorite characters is an unfounded fear, as well.
