Herman not knowing how to handle physical touch yet still being touch starved (due to the fact that his parents are literally not around—neglectful, abusive, or dead, take your pick)
Could be one of the reasons why he's always soaked with his own water, because he can't handle physical touch like others usually do so he ends up flinching slightly or moving away from the person entirely
The team does realize—after a while, because it gets a little too obvious especially after the entire panic attack that happened and they still do initiate touch, but instead they do wait until he's comfortable enough to start holding him or whatever
It takes a while until Herman eventually gets used to people genuinely touching him and not hurting him and the team's grateful that the comfort is mostly reserved for them
