Chris and I just shelled Brown Speckled Butter Beans on our porch in Southwest Philly, less than a mile from his field where he grew them. He shelled them with his Grandma on her porch, and we just ate them this weekend in Mississippi as soon as we walked into his parents' house from the airport. But this was powerful as it's the first time he's shelled butter beans he grew himself. We got the seeds earlier this year from Duck and Earl, sister and brother in-law of his friend and community gardener Pearl Trotter. They live in Shaw, MS, and we were lucky to visit them for some okra and sweet potatoes a couple days ago.
