Transcript:
Fia: Okay, I will help in whatever way I can. ["Irina" begins playing.] I can picture her very vividly still. I don't know whether it is true, or if I have made up a version of her, but she's still so strong in my mind. Sienna: Do you sense her arrival? Murph: Uh, and-- and looks at you, Fia. Fia: Do I? Murph: Um, and just then… you guys see a figure. Deep in the distance, in the maze of trees. ["Irina" begins playing. Fia gasps softly.] She's radiating with magical energy, surrounded by these swirling green sprites. Fia: It just kind of flowed from her very effortlessly. In fact, when I knew her, I… ah, I did not have a spell to my name really. I-- I-- I was not magical at all. The most magical thing about me was her probably. Murph: Yeah, Fia, you have this strong, strong memory of this magical girl that you grew up with in this very un-magical place. Just this burst of color in this grey world. Murph: She wears a multicolored cloak that she's clearly made herself. Murph: She has the looks of like, a bandit. Like, kind of like [Emily: Yeah.] patchwork clothes and things like that. [Emily: Yeah.] Of-- of like somebody who's like stolen armor. Fia: Okay. Henry: So it's gonna be like that. Fia: This is gonna be a problem because I actually really like you, because you seem sweet, because you made your own clothing, so… Emily: I am going to just…. ooh, I really don't wanna hurt her. Murph: And, um, she's kind of looking around. It looks like she probably just plane shifted here, and is a little bit like-- she's like staring around in wonder. Because, you know, even as somebody who's inherently magical she probably hasn't been to groves before. Um, or if she has, they're still beautiful every time you go to one. So, she looks around. Emily: Okay. I think I-- I take a moment to enjoy the pleasure of seeing her before she sees me. Fia: She is like a pressed flower in my mind. Murph: Yeah! You see uh, she smiles. She's got these, uh, little tusks that pop out, just like you Fia. Emily: Does she still wear her hair long? Fia: She loved honey cakes, but she would never finish one. She always gave the rest to the birds. Um, she had long silver hair that sometimes I would braid, but she didn't know how to braid her own hair. How funny is that! Sometimes I wonder, did you want me to braid your hair and that's why you never learned? Murph: She still wears her hair very long. She's got, uh, her silver hair goes all the way down her back. Fia: Okay-- ooh! Thank you. Silver is my favorite color. Yes, let's do this! Emily: I think then I can't help myself. I say, like-- Fia: I'm glad you kept it long. Murph: Um, you-- you-- you say-- Fia: It's such a beautiful color. There should be as much of it as possible.
Nein Again Episode 23
(12) I feel like Ashton is what Molly was supposed to be. Molly acts like he knows multiple people who throw dynamite in houses, but Ashton actually is that person. It's hard to be a punk when you have literally 2 years worth of memories. I'm not convinced Molly knows anyone beyond the circus people (though I havent read his origins book)
(16) holy shit is Caleb actually stronger than Fjord? The constant jokes about Fjord's strength make so much more sense now. Nvm Fjord has STR 11 and Caleb has STR 10. (Fjord eventually gets to 13 but Caleb keeps his 10)
(17) And another ball bearing gets used. This one was actually useful. Though I doubt the teeny tiny ball bearing made any difference on the weight or aerodynamics of the jerky. Maybe at the end of this I'll make a post that tracks ball bearing usage through the campaign
(35) Travis: "He stole you last time, you should have PTSD from this" Marisha: "Have you met Beau?"
(1:00) Molly's auto-cure feature actually has so much utility. (Too bad he died)
(1:03) Damn that Slow from Caleb saved Fjord's ass
(1:09) I love the mechanic for Caleb's fire-based freakouts, it's so juicy even if its also heart breaking. Also, so many points to Beau for both clocking that Caleb was out of it and realizing that the best thing for him is just time and distance and also caring enough about him to do something about it. It's particularly notable when compared to Molly slapping him (gently) the last time it happened.
(1:15) Care-giver Beau is perfect. Clueless but genuine and trying so hard.
(1:36) Suddenly jealous Jester O.O
(1:37) Oh huh, I didn't realize that Laura can't drink alcohol rn cause of the pregnancy. I wonder if that had anything to do with Jester also not drinking
(1:42) Everyone immediately doubling down on this strange plan to figure out what this book is
(1:53) Molly is so willing to cast spells on his friends. It's going to get him in trouble one day (or it would've if he lived long enough). I wouldn't trust him either
(2:10) Caleb: "She's abrasive, but that has it's uses. Right tool for the right job" Caleb talking about people like tools, like they are things to be used and not people with their own autonomy. He's still early in the process of unlearning what Trent taught him about manipulation
(2:16) Did Matt get his whole description of Hupperdook from Beau's story? Gnomes, industry, work hard, party hard, illicit substances. Or did Matt tell Marisha some stuff about it off screen?
(3:23) To what degree are standard medieval war machines even useful in a world with magic? Although I guess that depends pretty heavily on how many mages are in the military. Why use a siege tower when someone can just cast Door? Also do the Kyrn even have fortresses to siege?? (Also idk if Matt knows this but I'm pretty sure siege towers are generally constructed more or less on site, because it is easier to transport materials than a whole ass tower)
(3:40) No one is doing it like Hupperdook. Honestly one of the most memorable and distinct cities in Wildmount
(3:41) "You're being a bit nosey here." Yeahh they can't help it
Beau: "Did you get fired" I love Beau so much. Such an asshole, so bad at reading the room
have bird, will travel—favorite quotes, no context
(travis) who was that masked man?
(matt) thank you, sam. storro lives on in our hearts. hopefully, only in our hearts.
(beau) do you know a lot of people who throw dynamite in houses? (molly) yeah. i feel like that's pretty obvious, at this point.
(matt) if i could get a pair of scissors, please. (sam) what? you're going to cut your beautiful work? (matt) well yeah, you blew it apart.
(matt) there's this strange thread of faintly visible energy between it and fjord right now. there's some sort of connection between the two of them. (sam) ooh. are you...falling in love with him?
(travis) us and troll dongs, man!
(jester) i think we are a bad influence on her. (nott) i don't think so. kiri, would you like some human jerky?
(matt) ok, well, seeing as how the spell's limit is 25 words—
(sam) smithe durban is, knows, or has a gimp.
(travis/fjord) did you give me the dirty hand, ma'am?
(nott) "your eyes are like the sea?" we're in a landlocked part of the place here. she doesn't even know what that means.
(yasha) hello. here's the thing. you've made this very intriguing, this book that you're reading, and i can't leave here without knowing what it is.
(ashley) that would be a zero. cause i rolled a two, and my charisma is minus two.
(nott) yeza was his name. the halfling man. before. that's all. i just wanted to say his name out loud. it's been a while. (caleb) that's a good name. names are important.
(kiri) "she's probably a good egg." (beau) what does that mean? (nott) she could've learned that from anyone. anyone with a mildly zemnian accent. (kiri) "yeza was his name. the halfling man. before." (nott) shut up! shut up, kiri! (kiri) "shut up! shut up, kiri! shut up!"
(marisha) was it percy the time before too? (travis) stop saying it, stop saying the name. (laura) no, keep saying it, maybe he'll start rolling better.
(beau) it's very like, uh, very diverse biodomes in your eyes.
(matt) the evening passes without issue, actually. keeping a watch— (travis) you call that "without issue?"
(jester) you know the drill: take of your pants and walk away.
(nott) she's nice. why? let's kill her.
(caleb) i am crazy. (jester) oh. i can see that about you.
Nein Again music for Episode 23: Have Bird, Will travel under the cut! Unfortunately, I couldn't make out a lot of the combat music, but I still managed a few IDs.
Matt plays Forest Day 2 from World of Warcraft at about 10:05, when the Nein discuss whether they're going back to Zadash or taking the second job at Shadycreek Run. That song is timestamped in the compilation below, and the bookmarks show several similar songs.
Next, at about 12:46, Emhyr Var Emreis from Witcher III plays as the Nein talk about tossing dynamite into the troll's house.
Family Matters begins at about 18:10 when the carnivorous vines eat the jerky-wrapped ball bearing. It's got those haunting, scratchy strings.
Later, at 1:24:30, when the Nein reunite with Horris in Berleben, Matt plays music from the Exodar from World of Warcraft. The faction headquartered in the Exodar also has significant posts in the Zangarmarsh region, which shares a lot of motifs, so if you're looking for swamp music, that's a good set to check out. It replays at about 1:47:00 as most of the Nein give up on figuring out the book (before Molly bribes for the title).
Forest Day 2 from the Redridge compilation replays at about 2:04:00 when Molly asks the apothecary what else he has.
Family Matters replays at 2:05:15 or so when Fjord whispers about the "manhood thing".
At about 2:40:53, when the Nein have reached a crossroads and head for Hupperdook, Vergen by Night from Witcher 2 plays.
The Hunter's Path from Witcher III begins around 3:22:05, after the guard directs the Nein to the main part of Hupperdook.
At about 3:38:00, Dwarven Stone Upon Dwarven Stone from Witcher 2 plays through the end of the episode.
marisha: i toss percy some gold liam: you did it again! marisha: did i say percy last time too? travis: stop saying his name! laura: no keep saying it maybe taliesin will start rolling better
fjord: can i confide in you for something?
molly: oh yes, please
…
molly: i’m not gonna invade your space if you don’t need it, don’t worry about it
fjord: no, i mean, half of me is interested, the other half’s terrified, so i’m just kind of curious
molly: bless you…and if you drink enough, you won’t remember either way!
…
fjord: we’re gonna need a beagle to lead the charge, and i’m assuming that’s you?
molly: ONWARD AND OUTWARD!
fjord: jesus…
…
molly, very drunk: i’m gonna go throw up on fjord now, excuse me
Jester: :)
Fjord: Uma, has anyone ever told you you have eyes like the sea?
Jester: >:(
