Candy Dish Magic
My mother-in-law collects vintage candy dishes, and every year she gives me (and the rest of her daughters-in-law) a new candy dish. So just from that I already have quite a few. And then I found some that I liked the look of and bought for myself. What I'm trying to say is that I have far more candy dishes than I know what to do with.
So I got to thinking about how I can use those candy dishes in my practice. I can't say I've implemented too many of them just yet, but I figured I'd share my brainstorming anyway. I wrote this with candy dishes in mind, but many of the concepts can be used with any sort of decorative dish that you like the look of. So here's my (limited) list of magical things to do with a candy dish.
Fill it with specific candy to match an intention
I've come up with a few possibilities, but this is by no means a comprehensive list. Use the candies you like with the correspondences that make sense to you.
Peppermints for Healing, Clarity, or Luck (specifically with money)
Peach or Strawberry Candies for Love
Lemon Candies for Happiness, Positivity, or Friendship
Cinnamon Candies for Success or Courage
Caramels to sweeten things up
Chocolates for Grounding, Friendship, Love, or Vitality
Use it to store crystals
You can either keep your whole collection of crystals together in the dish, or choose a specific combination of crystals (possibly with some other components) for manifestation or spell work.
Use it as an Altar
I'm specifically drawing inspiration for this suggestion from those posts about making an "altar in a cup" that pop up on instagram near the sabbats. Same general idea, you place the appropriate items in the candy dish, possibly propped up in such a way that they're fully displayed. You could do this for the sabbats, or it can be an altar for a deity or your ancestors, or just a general one for yourself. The point of using the candy dish would be to use a smaller amount of space. Just remember to use fire safety if you include any candles.
Use it as a manifestation box
Whenever you want to manifest something, write the intention/affirmaton/whatever on a slip of paper and put it in your candy dish. You can keep collecting them indefinitely, or have a specific time each month (Full or New Moons, possibly) when you empty it and start over again. There's a lot of potential for customizing this idea for your practice, let me know if you want more ideas for it.
Homemade Snickers
ingredients
3 c (720g) dark chocolate chips, divided
1 tb refined coconut oil, divided
½ c (128g) unsweetened nut or seed butter
2 c (192g) marshmallow fluff
3 c (360g) powdered sugar
2 tb whole milk or almond milk
3/4 c (84g) roasted salted nuts
11 oz (312g) caramels
2 tb heavy cream or almond milk
flaky salt, for topping
clues
spray the bottom and sides of an 8” x 8” square pan with cooking spray and line with parchment paper that hangs over the edge of the pan by an inch on two sides. add 1 ½ cups of chocolate chips and 1 ½ tsp of coconut oil to a glass bowl and place the bowl over a simmering pot of water. stir the chocolate until it has melted completely, about 5 minutes. pour it into the pan and use an offset spatula to spread it evenly in a thin layer all over the bottom. place in the freezer to set.
meanwhile make the filling. in a large bowl mix together the marshmallow fluff, nut or seed butter, powdered sugar, and milk. mix well until it becomes a soft dough-like consistency (this mixture is incredibly sticky and you may need to use your hands). remove the pan from the freezer, wet your finger tips and press the fluff filling down over the chocolate in an even layer. sprinkle the nuts on top and press lightly into the fluff.
add the caramel and cream to a small sauce pot and cook over low heat, while stirring. cook until the caramels are melted, 5-8 minutes. spread the caramel over the fluff and place in the refrigerator for 5 minutes. meanwhile, melt the remaining chocolate and coconut oil. spread the chocolate over the top of the caramel and sprinkle with flaky salt. place back in the refrigerator until chocolate is fully set and hardened, about an hour or up to overnight.
using the parchment, pull the bars out of the pan and transfer to a cutting board. run a sharp knife until warm water and then cut 16 bars. enjoy! store in an airtight container in the fridge. these should keep for a week or even longer, if they last that long.
🍬🍭✨Candy Magic✨🍭🍬
This is a sweet little charm I invented to help me get though times when my spoons were low. I combine sigil magic, intent, a touch of dopamine and a little bump in my blood sugar, and it has saved my sanity so many times.
I take individually wrapped hard lollies and I write my sigil for “I have enough spoons” on the wrapper and seal it with a kiss. At its most basic level, this is it.
However, there are a ton of great things you can do to give this bit of simple folk magic a boost! And I’ve started using it for way more than just my spoonie needs :)
I keep my candies in a glass jar with a charged crystal (I love clear quartz, but you could use citrine, rose quartz, anything you feel will work).
You can use any sigil you like: anti-nausea, lessen pain, energy recharge, “I can see spirits”, “people love me”, “negative energy cannot touch me”, “I remember what I hear”, the possibilities are literally endless.
I love a bit of correspondence magic, and there are so many flavour options!
Peppermint hard candies would be perfect for nausea of course, or to keep your concentration sharp and/or fight off brainfog.
🍊Orange would brighten your mood and 🍋lemon would give you an edge for holding off negative energy.
A 🍓strawberry flavoured lolly could give you a hit of self-love when people are wearing you down or love for others to help recharge your social battery a bit, or give a glamour a sweet boost.
Honey flavour is perfect for interviews or public speaking as it gives you honeyed words.
A humbug is perfect to suck on while communing with spirits or doing divination as the aniseed helps to heighten your psychic abilities.
I believe cinnamon candy is a thing in America, so that would be perfect for a boost of spoons! The cinnamon would really give the spell a kick, and help to strengthen the guttering fire in your belly.
Colour magic as well! Red, orange, yellow, pink, blue, rainbow, there is infinite possibility for colour magic + hard candies!
There are even those rock lollies with the little picture inside! Putting so much work into building that sugary image--that IS magic. It’s practically a pre-made sigil!
Of course, it doesn’t NEED to be a hard candy, but I love the way I can keep one in my bag for any time I need it, and how it takes a while to “soak in”, giving me a chance to meditate on the... spell. Charm. Potion? If you use another sort of lolly you can keep them in a jar with the sigil on a piece of paper inside/underneath.
Anyway, I just wanted to share this little bit of sweet everyday witchcraft I rely on. Have fun experimenting!

Candy Magic
Also, I am back/my family has gone back home
Yesterday, I harvested and dried a bunch of lemon balm, so in addition to making tea, I decided to give it a go in my candy making experiments. I’ll share the recipe with you guys if it turns out (it’s cooling right now). In the meantime, though, it occurred to me that candy making really is so set up for witching. Aside from easily incorporating herbs, it’s pretty much charged in the making since you’re heating it up to 300 degrees Fahrenheit. Also, it’s basically the whole “cauldron bubble” thing the entire time too.
In other news, I will be working on catching up with the things I mentioned before my mini vacation from tumblr thingy, those being etsy shop, pendulum study, and just generally getting back to posting more things for you lovely people.
Peace and joy be with you all, ~ Hazel
