Emile Pingat Evening Capelet
c. 1890
Augusta Auctions
Completed capelet, knit entirely from handdyed handspun with a vintage glass frog button.
Pattern is the Duet Capelet by Vanessa Ewing (Etsy or Ravelry).
Dye job was ‘Mossy Rocks’ by JillianEve, which I spun myself in my daedalus e-spinner.
This sweet, white 50s style gown with matching capelet was first worn by Olivia Newton-John as Sandy in the classic film 𝑮𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒆 in 1978. The dress and capelet both made their way to 𝑯𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒚 𝑫𝒂𝒚𝒔 for the season six episode 𝑺𝒘𝒆𝒆𝒕 𝑺𝒊𝒙𝒕𝒆𝒆𝒏, which also aired in 1978. The costume was worn by Erin Moran as Joanie Cunningham. When modern-day clothing is reused, there is always the chance that they are the same design, but not the same piece, but because both productions are associated with Paramount, the likelihood that they are the exact same piece is likely.
