What do you think about that Ian JQ tweet about the Diamonds apparently *not* killing intelligent life on countless planets, and that human life was their first encounter with it? The fandom’s response has been...less than stellar.

why? it has never been implied that they killed intelligent life on other planets. ever. that’s something the fandom invented. 

the diamonds, and homeworld gems generally, treated the crystal gems as basically eco-terrorists for this reason (”what are you so upset about? we made a zoo to preserve some specimen!”, “i’m surprised a human is capable of understanding how i feel”). the only other creatures we’ve seen them target have been basically animals (the rainbow worm, the creatures on the jungle moon). gems and humans have always been framed as this dichotomy of intelligent life within this universe.

oh wait, i know why, it’s because the fandom loves to see things in whatever way makes the “evil” characters more evil, like how they treat pink as some malicious manipulator. so i’m sure it was a big blow for the people who have used this to “prove” how evil gemkind is for years. F in the chat lmao.

Chilling out, maxing, relaxing all cool, not playing b-ball, not in school When a couple of Di's who were up to no good, started making trouble in my neighborhood I got in one little fight and their plan unfurled Blue Diamond said 'you're moving with us to a place called Homeworld' I begged and pleaded with her day after day, but she threatened to kill everyone unless she got her way. She gave me a Pearl and then she gave me a spaceship, I got out my ukulele and said "I might as well kick it'! First class, yo, this is bad No durian juice and no champagne glass? Is this what the people of Homeworld living like? Yo, this isn't alright I tried to escape but they wouldn't let me leave Homeworld knew every trick up my sleeve I felt so sick I really should have hurled But Blue thought "Nah, forget it, yo Pearl, to Homeworld!" I pulled up to a palanquin, 7 or 8 And I yelled at Blue Diamond 'yo, Blue, smell ya later!' Looked at my kingdom, it's a horrible swirl, But I sit on my throne as the prince of Homeworld.

It was the kind of celebration that could be heard around the planet. Voices raised in cheers and song, feet stomping on the ground, Gems sobbing with relief and delight, bright flashes of light as many were swept up in dances and fused spontaneously–

It was a day that would most certainly go down in Gem and human history alike.

The Earth was saved. They’d done it. They’d done it. They’d looked the Diamond’s in the eyes, they’d defied Homeworld, and carved out this little piece of the universe, a place where people of all kinds could be safe and free and themselves.

And then it came.

A light in a sky. A song. No, not a song– that was too pretty a word. A sound, a noise, grating and ugly and burning and corrupting and horrible

and it was in their ears in their minds

splintering

shattering 

shrieking

thoughts flying away, fading, as wings and claws and teeth sprouted, and it hurt, it hurt, it hurt all the more because they couldn’t remember why it hurt, or how–

Across the globe, humans cowered in their huts and their homes, and the screams of monsters echoed through the air.

Among it all, stood the only four remaining Gems on all of Earth. Tears rolling down their stunned faces. Clutching at each other, clutching at their weapons, as they were forced to raise them against old friends.

The Earth was saved.

But who could saves the ones who’d fought for it?
