rory williams is not used to the concept of being a father. he was one. and then he wasn’t. and then, he realized the friend he’d known, the woman he’d grown to admire for how she handled the doctor - was the child he’d lost. lost in the future and the past all at once. melody pond, river song. and his heart is fit to burst. he never got the typical experiences, but of course - neither did she. but when he finds her sitting in his back garden, him home from work - he drops his bag at the backdoor - and heads to kiss the top of her head.
‘ good to see you river - any grand adventures? ‘
hand squeezes her shoulder before he moves to take a seat across from her. he can see amy in her, no matter the physical appearance of her, it’s there in the flash of her eyes, the tilt of her chin, the smile on her lips.
‘ amy said she’d be late, so im on my own for supper. i was thinking an omelette, could i tempt you with one? ‘

"---try not to move too much. it's alright - i'm only healing this abrasion." beverly tries to sooth her latest patient who is . . . quite frankly, beyond anything she's ever seen. the tricorder scans alone are something intriguing, but not too out of what she's used to seeing with some federation species. she's managed to heal what she can of injuries - bruises and what might have been a broken bone, and she's finishing up regenerating the skin at the woman's temple.
"you were unconscious on an abandoned ship when we found you." and while beverly still isn't sure what had caused her unconscious state, she's glad to see @carbondated awake. she lowers the dermal regenerator and focuses her attention on the woman's face. "there was an emergency distress beacon - but you were the only one we found. do you remember what happened?"
really, now. he only left the console room for like, half a minute. it was to grab a book. and once he got what he needed, he is back —
. . . why is there a woman in his TARDIS ? he'd understand someone wandering in, had he left the door unlocked, but he hadn't. it defies explanation, because to his knowledge, he's not met this person in any of his nine - hundred ( ish ) years of living.
. . . but if that is the case, and they are utter STRANGERS to one another, why did his hearts kind of crawl into his THROAT for a moment there ?! again , inexplicable , much like her very presence in his home away from home, causing the doctor to sit the novel he'd just fetched from his study down on the console , swallow , and breathe .
" ... um. hello. yes , hi. hello , there ! a - and you are ? " wide hazel eyes affixed upon her as he tries his damndest to mask the utter confusion and the . . . strange rush of emotions he'd just felt blaze down his spine, because he is a trooper. that is what he is.

@carbondated !
always a good day when he can give a patient a clean bill of health and send them on their way. quick to knock on the door & let himself in, " how are you feeling today? you'll be on your way soon, won't you, mrs- " stopped in his tracks, feels like a drill boring into his head. clutches the side of his head, met by brief visions of impossible things. a man in a blue suit, flying in a stream of... blue light? the same man meeting her in a library...
as quickly as they began, they're over. grits his teeth ever so slightly, collects himself. " i-i'm sorry, ri-" gulps down the words. why did he say that? mrs song, mrs song. " mrs song, my apologies. i'm dealing with something of a migraine. "

zinnia : how has the loss of fallen comrades and/or loved ones affected your muse ? has it taught them anything or given them any new perspectives ?
....badly. really really badly. he's lost just about everyone he's ever loved, and with the length of his lifespan, he will lose everyone. it's affected him badly. it changes from moment to moment, really, but the answer is not well. he can be mean and distant and unwilling to form close relationships. it's taught him that everyone dies, that everyone always dies. he's learned a lot, and the lessons aren't good.

Oh, this again. Whenever the Doctor has a run-in with River Song— the woman who already has and simultaneously will one day die and end up in The Library's massive hard drive— she manages to give them a feeling of imposter syndrome simply for not yet being who she thinks is the real version of them. The Doctor crinkles their nose at her, arms crossed over their chest and looking rather miffed about the situation.
"You say that like I'm not literally the Doctor you're talking about. Just 'cause I'm not at a point in my timestream that pleases you doesn't mean I'm not me!" Their face is gloriously pouty, their posture mildly standoffish. "What is it about future me that makes them so much more me than I am?"
