ალექსანდრე ასლანიკაშვილის მონოგრაფია "მეტაკარტოგრაფია. ძირითადი პრობლემები" გამოიცა 1974 წელს რუსულ ენაზე. კონცეფცია მოიცავს კარტოგრაფიის ზოგად თეორიას. მასში განხილულია თეორიული კარტოგრაფიის საკვანძო საკითხები: კარტოგრაფიის კვლევის საგანი, მეცნიერების კვლევის კარტოგრაფიული მეთოდი, კარტოგრაფიის შინაგანი სტრუქტურა, კარტოგრაფიის კავშირი სხვა მეცნიერებებთან და მისი ადგილი მეცნიერებათა ზოგად საკლასიფიკაციო სისტემაში, რუკის ენის სემიოტიკური ასპექტები, რუკათა კლასიფიკაციის პრინციპები, მასშტაბის პრობლემატიკა, კარტოგრაფიული გენერალიზაცია.
სამწუხაროდ ამ ორიგინალური მონოგრაფიის თარგმანი ინგლისურ ენაზე ვერ შესრულდა. 1999 წელს საერთაშორისო კარტოგრაფიული ასოციაციის "თეორიული კარტოგრაფიის" კომისიის თავმჯდომარემ, იაპონელმა პროფესორმა ტოსიტომო კანაკუბომ ჯგუფთან ერთად იაპონურ ენაზე თარგმნა, ზემოაღნიშნული მონოგრაფია. რაც შეიძლება განვიხილოთ, როგორც ალექსანდრე ასლანიკაშვილის მეტაკარტოგრაფიის კონცეფციის საერთაშორისო აღიარებად.
ქართველ კარტოგრაფთა ჯგუფის მონაწილეობისას ჩეხეთის ქალაქ ოლომოუცში, 2023 წლის, აპრილში გამართულ საერთაშორისო სიმპოზიუმზე ალ. ასლანიკაშვილის მონოგრაფიის იაპონური თარგმანი ბეჭდური სახით გადმოგვცა პროფესორ ტოსიტომო კანაკუბოს ერთ-ერთმა მოსწავლემ ალექსანდრე ვოლოდჩენკომ (გერმანია). ეს ეგზემპლარი ამჟამად ინახება თსუ-ს გეომორფოლოგია-კარტოგრაფიის კათედრაზე.
საქართველოს კარტოგრაფთა ასოციაციის ერთ-ერთ მნიშვნელოვან მიზანს წარმოადგენს ალექსანდრე ასლანიკაშვილის ფუნდამენტური შრომების თარგმანის შესრულება ინგლისურ ენაზე, რათა მისი იდეები და შრომები უფრო ახლოს გაიცნონ დასავლეთის სამეცნიერო კარტოგრაფიულმა წრეებმა.
Alexander Aslanikashvili's monograph "Metacartography: Main Problems" was published in 1974 in Russian. The concept includes the general theory of cartography. It discusses the key issues of theoretical cartography: the subject of cartographic research, the cartographic method of scientific research, the internal structure of cartography, the connection of cartography with other sciences and its place in the general classification system of sciences, the semiotic aspects of map language, the principles of map classification, the problem of scale, and cartographic generalization.
Unfortunately, the translation of this original monograph could not be done in English. In 1999, the Chairman of the "Theoretical Cartography" Commission of the International Cartographic Association, Japanese Professor Tositomo Kanakubo, together with his group, translated the above-mentioned monograph into Japanese. Which can be considered an international recognition of Aleksandre Aslanikashvili's concept of metacartography.
During the participation of the group of Georgian cartographers at the international symposium held in the Czech city of Olomouc in April 2023, one of the students of Professor Tositomo Kanakubo, Alexander Volodchenko (Germany), conveyed to us the Japanese translation of Al. Aslanikashvili's monograph in printed form. This copy is currently kept at the Department of Geomorphology-Cartography at TSU.
One of the important goals of the Association of Cartographers of Georgia is the translation of Alexander Aslanikashvili's fundamental works into English, so that his ideas and works can become more familiar to the scientific cartographic circles of the West.
