Canon EOS 250D | 112mm | 1/4000s | f/5.6 | ISO 200 Taken on 23/05/2020. The Roero in Piedmont is a mainly hilly area speckled with castle-top towns and villages such as Govone, Magliano Alfieri and Guarene. These are known as 'le Rocche del Roero' (the Castles of the Roero). The River Tanaro is what divides this wine-growing area and the world-renowned Langhe. But unlike the Langhe, you'll be able to enjoy exploring verdant vineyards at your own pace without having to put up with the tourist brigade. I took this photo of Castellinaldo d'Alba in May last year, just as Italy was coming out of the first lockdown, although interregional travel was still prohibited. Unsurprisingly, there was a mass exodus of visitors, even among Italians; it felt as though I had the whole village to myself. I remember having to deal with high humidity that day, climbing up what seemed a never-ending steep street called 'via Roma'. But the far-flung views from the very top more than made up for that 👍.
