Even though Ralsei has internalized so much of that toxic ‘Darkners aren’t real, they exist for the sake of the Lightners’ mindset…. Even before Chapters 3 + 4 where he’s starting to confront it and question it directly, he was already making Castle Town/[PLAYERNAME]Town to be kind of the Antithesis of that idea.
Well… maybe not entirely. Castle Town provides useful services to Kris and Susie and they seem to be deferential to Kris…
..…or perhaps more accurately, to us.
But it’s still also a place where Darkners can just hang out, and do things for other Darkners and just kinda exist without the need to fulfill their Light World Purpose.
While Ralsei struggles with the idea of creating his own room with stuff for him to enjoy, he creates rooms for other Darkners without a second thought.
Maybe on some level he rationalized it as, like, ‘well, Susie likes Lancer so she would like it if he had a cool room’, but I think this situation really demonstrates how Ralsei has been kinda subconsciously rebelling against this dehumanizing outlook of Darkners from the start due to his kindness, and how he struggles more than anything with being kind to himself.
