I started playing Cataclismo, which is a tower-defense and base-building game that sort of reminds me of a more competent and artsy Castle Story. You're building up your castle with voxel pieces and then sending troops to man the ramparts. Very low-poly style, in a way that works, and it's got that worldbuilding that I love where things are just mentioned in passing to evoke the imagination more than to explicitly lay out everything.
You level up your skills in the Book of Insight, and it's mentioned in passing that the mysterious tome has been with Lady Iris since birth, which really tickles me. A baby with a cursed and/or holy tome! They try to take it from the baby, and it appears in the crib again the next day, clutched tightly like a normal child might grip a stuffed animal. It's a beautiful little unfolding detail of the sort that videogames are really great for.
