Even though it is set in the Winter, I love this series for October. Check it out!
I’ve been on a bit of a reading spree lately (which is nice, to have enough brain power left to read new things!). I picked up this romance by Cathy Maxwell and quite enjoyed it. I liked the heroine quite a bit, and I liked that the two protagonists had misunderstandings that they GOT OVER BY COMMUNICATING. Not always smoothly, but what fun would it be if there wasn’t a conflict to resolve? I could use fewer family issues - sometimes I just want protagonists to come from supportive, not terrible families, you know? - but it is more of a preference thing and didn’t hinder my enjoyment of the novel.

Some of Ben Sedgwick’s favorite things:
· Helping his poor parishioners
· Baby animals
· Shamelessly flirting with the handsome Captain Phillip Dacre
After an unconventional upbringing, Ben is perfectly content with the quiet, predictable life of a country vicar, free of strife or turmoil. When he’s asked to look after an absent naval captain’s three wild children, he reluctantly agrees, but instantly falls for the hellions. And when their stern but gloriously handsome father arrives, Ben is tempted in ways that make him doubt everything.
Some of Phillip Dacre’s favorite things:
· His ship
· People doing precisely as they're told
· Touching the irresistible vicar at every opportunity
Phillip can’t wait to leave England’s shores and be back on his ship, away from the grief that haunts him. But his children have driven off a succession of governesses and tutors and he must set things right. The unexpected presence of the cheerful, adorable vicar sets his world on its head and now he can’t seem to live without Ben’s winning smiles or devastating kisses.

Books I Read Last Week
Okay, peeps, here is my quick-take on three books I read this past week while my sister and I lounged around the house:
The Match of the Century by Cathy Maxwell (Historical)
I loved her Brides of Wishmore series and was excited when I saw her Marrying the Duke series on sale for Kindle, so I bought them all. However, I am less of a fan of this first book. It follows the she’s-engaged-to-his-brother trope that I love (LOVE OR FAMILY, THE HEART MUST CHOOSE), but I think Maxwell tried something that ultimately did not pan out for me. I love the family, I love Elin and Ben and Gavin and all the danger and pistol shooting that happens, so I am looking forward to the other books in the series, but this one didn’t WOW me.
How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days by Kerrelyn Sparks (Paranormal/Fantasy)
I gotta say, this book combines the high fantasy genre with the romance genre that I didn’t realize I needed in my life. I LOVED IT. It is a Beauty and the Beast romance where the Embraced, people with magic gifts born on the day the twin moons align, are ostracized for their powers. The heroines of the series are all Embraced, sent to the convent on the Isle of Moon to hide. Luciana, our first heroine, is wonderfully kind and gutsy, and the hero Leofric is just the right amount of tough and squish. The build-up in this novel is FANTASTIC and I am so excited to read the rest of the series!
Until You Loved Me by Brenda Novak (Contemporary)
Okay, this was my first Novak. Unexpected pregnancy for a scientist heroine and quarterback superstar hero who both have their own hang-ups about relationships causes a whole lot of upheaval and drama. And I mean, like, hit-you-over-the-head, rip-the-blindfold-off, holy-mother-of-wow drama. I texted a friend about this book and she said, “This feels like a stressful book. So many THINGS happened.” It was not what I expected, but I did enjoy it. However, there are a LOT of moments where it feels overwhelming. I couldn’t put it down, but there are definitely moments where I looked up and said, “I need a cup of tea to calm down.”
Alright, that is all I have for now! Back to unpacking my book boxes. I am hoping to have it all done this week!
Until later, then!
