Cayde is genuinely the type of man to watch you slap someone and be the first to ask if your hand is okay
He knows you, knows that they probably deserved that slap too
Doesn't matter if it was at the tower or not - although if it was one of his friends he might try to sort it out because he doesn't want either of you to be mad at him (but he's going to lean on your side more because you do the exact same for him)
He'll likely dote on your hand lately, not making it obvious but just a small rub of his thumb on your palm or knuckles
You'd really only realize it if you were thinking about the event while he was doing it and if you call him out on it, he'll deny all accusations without a lawyer present
A/N:If you haven't noticed I'm still not over cayde's death. This has been sitting in my drafts for like half a year now and Ngl I totally forgot that I wrote this. Anyway hope yall like some Angst
_______
“It’s been a while hasn’t it?”
You didn’t respond to your Ghost although you knew what he was referring to. You tried to avoid the tower since the incident. Which happened a little over a year ago. So yeah, you could say that it indeed has been a while. Your feet carry you through the dark hallways of the tower. The lights flickering from not being used in a while. The way to your destination seems long, dark, cold and worst of all unfamiliar to you. You hesitate in some of your steps. You sometimes even need to stop to think about which way you’re supposed to go. It’s sad, really. You use to go down these hallways every other day and now you can’t even find your way around anymore.
The sound of your footsteps bounced off the walls as you make your way up a flight of stairs. You made way too much noise for your taste. The sound was unsteady with no real rhythm. It made you uneasy. You fiddle around with the black and white Hand Cannon strapped to your thigh as you round another corner.
Finally, after what seemed like hours but were in reality only 20 minutes, you could see the light of the old vending machine in the middle of a hallway. And just as you expected there was a familiar cloaked figure leaning on the small table next to it. Already eating one bowl of ramen with two empty bowls in front of him. You stand still for a moment, just looking at the person. It seems so surreal to you. You take a deep breath before you continue on your way to the small ramen machine, letting the heavy door you just walked through fall shut behind you in the process. You try to avoid the glowing eyes of the Exo next to you although you could feel them on you. You put the coupon in the machine and wait for it to give you your food. You quietly cuss to yourself as the machine makes some weird noises and stops to spit out the hot water. You stand in front of it for a minute or so before the person next to you finally speaks up.
“Just give it a good kick. Should get it working again.” You can feel him coming closer next to you so you take a step back and let him do his thing. He gives the machine a hard kick and sure enough, it continues to pour the water into the bowl.
“I thought that maybe they finally fixed it after all this time.” You respond. You carefully take the bowl, cautious not to spill any of the Ramen. You put it on the table, right next to the half empty one. You look up to the man as he goes back to the position he was in before he helped you.
“Who would they fix it for? Nobody’s really using it anymore.” was his only response. You take a good look at him while he speaks. He still has the same glowing playful eyes and mouth that always seemed to be smirking. He still wears the same old and dirty cloak he always did. He still has the same worn, black and white gun strapped to his thigh, identical to the one you have on your body right now. You tear your eyes away from him as he continues to eat. You break the chopsticks apart and start to dig into the food yourself.
“You took your time.” He says, trying to sound playful but failing miserably. Instead, the statement comes out quietly and kind of sad.
“I know. I’m sorry. There were some things I had to get done first.”
“Like what?” You didn’t know what to say at that moment. He knew just as much as you did yourself that you didn’t really need to get anything done. You were just avoiding the tower. Because coming here and not seeing the familiar face down at the hangar would just make all of this real. So you just ignored the question and continued to eat.
It was quiet after that. The only sound is the slurping of you two eating and the buzzing of the machine. But the silence isn’t heavy as you might have expected. It’s comfortable. Maybe even a little relaxing. It really has been some time since you were at the tower. You missed it. Kind of. You missed him. Just sitting somewhere. Not thinking or talking or killing. Just living in the moment for a little while before everything goes back to normal again.
“I’m sorry.” You whisper after you finished eating.
“It’s ok kiddo. No hard feelings. I know you do everything in your own time.” He responded without hesitation and in a cheery tone.
“I’m not just talking about not coming to the tower you know.”
It was quiet again after that although this time the silence felt heavy. The Exo finally looked up at you before he spoke in a small and soft voice.
“I know.” He took a step closer to you, reaching out to lay a heavy hand on your shoulder.
“Where have you been kiddo? Everyone is worried about you.” he sais softly.
“No one is worried about me. Only you.” You said while you looked up at him.
“That’s not true and you know that. We all care. Zavala and Ikor-”
“Zavala and Ikora only care when they need something. Same goes for everyone else in this city. They didn’t even try to contact me after...” you don’t dare to finish that sentence. Instead your voice cracks as you start to speak again.
“I had to find out through another Guardian. Nobody called. Nobody cared.” The Exo takes a deep breath and pulls you in for a hug. You don’t hesitate to throw your arms around his waist. You close your eyes as you try to savor the feeling of his arms around you. It has been so long since somebody gave you a hug. In fact, now that you think about it it was before he left for that mission on the Reef. He was the last one to take you into his arms like that. Funny isn’t it.
“You shouldn’t have been alone at that time. You shouldn’t be alone right now. Come home, sweetcheeks. Don’t put yourself through all of that again.” He whispered in your ear. You just shake your head. You are choking up when you open your mouth to say something. You’re trying to hold it together but fail miserably. And just like that, you break into tears in the arms of the Exo. Sobbing, screaming and crying till your throat is sore.
“Come home kiddo...” It’s only a whisper from him now. His voice fading into the hallway. You shut your eyes at those three words. It hurts to hear him say that. This wasn’t your home. You don’t have a home. Not anymore at least.
“God I’m sorry, so so sorry!” You whispered over and over again. You open your eyes when you suddenly felt cold but quickly closed them again when you realized that you were the only one standing by the vending machine. You let out another quiet sob and fell down on your knees. You grabbed your armor in your hands. Trying to make it feel like he was still holding you. You curled into yourself, lowering your head to the filthy floor when it didn’t feel like him. After a year of holding yourself together, a year of not shedding a tear over him, of not returning to the tower, of you throwing yourself into armies of enemies just so your mind is somewhat occupied, you finally let go. You could feel your Ghost trying to comfort you by rubbing himself against your shoulder. And while you cried silently in the dark hallway, at the vending machine you always met in the middle of the night after a hard mission, you let out one more apology.

The prompt from @xentari94 was this:
Hi! Omg I love your writing! ❤️ ^^ Could I request #1 on the first list with Cayde x Exo Female Gunslinger? One where she goes with Cayde to the prison and everything happens the same except this time she manages to get to him, and saves him from being shot.
Cayde-6 x (Exo) Female!Reader
Warnings: cursing, violence, angst/comfort

“Any second now, my partner is gonna roll in here and kill… every… Last… One of you.”
It wasn’t a prison riot. It was a prison break.
Petra Venj had called Cayde-6 earlier asking for help with an ongoing riot in the Prison of Elders, and he had roped you into it on the promise that it’d be a ton of fun. Like date night, but with more gunfire.
And you had agreed with a smile because you enjoyed any time you spent with Cayde whether it be a night of drinks and ramyun or a mission on the Shore. You didn’t care. As long as the two of you were together.
It wasn’t a prison riot.
It wasn’t a prison riot.
It was a prison break, and as you watched Cayde plunge into the depths of the prison, riding the top of the control center, all you could think was that this wasn’t a very good date night either. The control center hit the ground floor with an explosion. You went to call out to Cayde, but before you could the metal beneath you gave out and your head slammed into the floor before falling.
.
It took a moment to gather your bearings.
.
You shuttered your eyes and involuntarily sucked in a sharp breath. Your body didn’t need the air but doing so brought comfort to you. A familiar voice brought you back to reality, “Hey, welcome back.” Shakily, you rose to your feet and your Ghost danced around your helmet once before fading away. The sharp pain in your side disappeared. “We fell at least 20 stories down, and I can’t reach Cayde or Petra.”
You opened the comm link yourself and flinched when the only sound that greeted you was loud static, “Keep trying to reach them, ok?”
Your Ghost hummed a confirmation and you jogged forward to try and figure out where you were. It looked like you were in the bowels of the prison now, and if you went down a few more stories you’d end up where Cayde had landed. That was the goal. Find Cayde-6.
As you walked, a chill went down your back and it made every plate on your body stiffen and freeze. Your hand tightened around the grip of your hand cannon as you took a few more steps forward. There was a purplish-blue fog that created a trail through the door into the next room.
“Something is loose.” Your Ghost commented and you agreed wholeheartedly. Something felt very, very wrong. You picked up your pace. “It’s close, [Name].”
Your quick pace turned into a run as you tried to catch the end of the smoke trail, but it led into a room of creatures you hadn’t seen before. You came to a screeching stop and pulled your gun up to begin firing. They looked like Fallen in shape, but they were paler, covered in unusual armor, and they wielded weapons that the Fallen typically didn’t. Their entire beings had a freakish smoky glow that reeked of ether.
“These… things… used to be fallen.” You shot the last one and then just stood there for a moment letting your mind catch up to the scene. “The fallen didn’t just become this. Someone did this to them.”
Despite being an Exo, the feeling of bile rising in your throat overcame you. This was all wrong. Something terrible was happening. You pushed forward, stumbling slightly, before breaking into a full-on sprint, “Keep trying to reach Cayde.”
Room after room, the creatures came. The lower you went the more corrupted ether filled the air around you. The stench of it mingled with the smoke coming from the burning prison walls. With every step you took, the feeling of dread grew, and you couldn’t put your finger on what it was. Your ghost still couldn’t reach anyone on comms. There was only you, your Ghost, and static.
You dug your knife into the face of a screeching monster that got too close, and then spun to throw the blade into the next one coming. With one more shot the room was clear and you pushed onward. You jumped down a broken portion of the walkway to land on the lower floor.
You barely got a few steps forward before a blast of energy hit you in the chest knocking you onto your back. Instinct had you rolling back onto your feet quickly looking for the enemy that had thrown the grenade, but no one was there.
“No.” Your ghost sounded devastated. For the first time since you met him, his voice sounded shaky. “That was Cayde’s… Sundance. That was Sundance. She’s dead.”
You were moving. Before your ghost could even stop speaking, you were moving. With every step, with every pulse of your being, the name of your hunter flashed through your mind. Cayde. Cayde. Cayde. You had to get to Cayde. You needed to find Cayde. You couldn’t even properly mourn the loss of Sundance because you were so focused on finding the Exo Vanguard. Your Ghost was making a noise, like a low-pitched whine, and it was one you had never heard before. Ghosts couldn’t cry, but you wondered if this was the equivalent. With as much time as you spent with Cayde, your Ghost and spent and equal amount of time with his.
“The… The blast came from up ahead. Two more rooms.” Your Ghost focused back on the task. There was a forced steeliness to his voice.
You whipped through the door and up ahead at the other end of the room a large deformed monster stood in your way. It turned to charge at you, but you brought your gun up while simultaneously reaching for the Light. Warmth filled your entire body as you fired round after round at it. It fell to its knees dead and your Light began to fade, but you didn’t let it.
You kept the fire burning in your chest and the warmth turned to burning. It felt like you were burning from inside out, like you had swallowed the sun itself, but you wouldn’t let go. You couldn’t. Your Ghost cried out in worry, pleading for you to release the energy, but you burst through the next door letting the Light singe you from inside out.
An awoken wearing a hood stood in front of Cayde holding the Ace of Spades over him. Behind him, waiting in the door were more of the twisted, large ether soaked Fallen, and though you vaguely recognized them it was getting hard to see through the flames that engulfed you. The awoken’s head snapped to you, eyes glowing gold as they narrowed into a glare, and then they moved back to Cayde who could barely hold himself up.
“Told you so.” Cayde chuckled in a broken voice.
He went to fire, you saw his hand tighten, but you finally released your energy in a cry of pain. Like a rubber band that had been pulled too taunt, it snapped and blew out in a blast of fire. The awoken fired a round but went flying back at the same time toward the crew of monsters waiting for him. One of the creatures grabbed him and they went scurrying off, the door closing and locking in place behind them.
You clawed at your helmet. It was too hot. Too hot and you needed that unnecessary air to fill your body. Your ghost dismissed your helmet and you sucked in the ether tanged air. You could hear Cayde groaning still and stumbled toward him only to fall to your knees halfway there. You crawled the rest of the way until you were hovering over the battered Cayde.
“Partner, you’re smoking.” Cayde coughed out. He lifted a hand to your face but burned his fingers against the metal of your face, “Both figuratively and literally.”
Cayde’s face was busted. One eye flickering and his cheek dented in. He looked bad, and as you traced his figure with your eyes you realized the Awoken had shot him. The bullet had hit him just above the hip.
“Cayde.” You breathed out.
He followed your gaze and set a hand over the spot, “Damn. That could’ve been worse, huh?”
“I thought I lost you.” You cried out. Your voice breaking on the words. “Cayde, we felt… Sundance.”
Cayde’s face fell and you watched as he reached out to grab a red and white shard that laid not too far from him. He hissed in pain at the movement, but still brought the piece to his chest. “I fucked up. I fucked up, and she paid the price. Fuck.”
You couldn’t imagine how that would feel. The thought of losing your Ghost made you sick. Your Ghost, as if knowing your thought, curled up in the crook of your neck. Still mourning his friend. Loss wasn’t something guardians dealt with often. Not since the Red War. The thought of losing your Ghost, losing any of your friends, losing Cayde…
“Please…” The word fell from your mouth in desperation. “Please don’t leave me.” Cayde forced himself to sit up with a grunt and you reached out to hold him, so he didn’t fall over. You shook your head afraid to touch one of his wounds and hurt him worse. Sundance wasn’t here to heal him. What if these wounds were worse than they looked? “Cayde-”
He leaned his head against yours, “I ain’t goin’ nowhere, partner.”
You gripped his armor with your hands. Just having him here in your arms comforted you to some degree. He was moving and talking and whispering comforting words to you. You had made it in time.
“So”, Cayde cleared his throat and you pulled back to look him in the eyes. He gave you a smile, but with the damage done to his face it looked like an strange grimace, “I will admit, this was not the best date we’ve ever had. My bad.”
The last thing you expected to do in this moment was laugh, but you couldn’t stop the sound from coming out as you laid your head against his shoulder. He leaned the side of his head against yours with a tired sigh as the two of you waited for Petra to get down here and take you home.
Hey, hey, hey! If you're still doing xReader requests would you mind doing a Cayde/Reader? Preferably something fluffy with baking. And a cookie dough war bc those are fun XD
OMG! YEESSSS, I'LL DO IT! Cayde is my love in Destiny! And I get it out as soon as I can!
A/N: This is a sibling type of love, just a heads up for those who're looking for a romance imagine with Cayde.
Cayde's gone. Cayde's gone and he's not coming back. Y/N feels bitter and sad, but not angry. It's been two years since Cayde died and she knew then that it wouldn't ever not hurt to think about him when she sees the Exo in almost every part of the tower, when she hears his voice in her head poking harmless fun of her when they used to roam every nook and cranny of both the tower and the city. It's hard not to feel all kinds of wrong when the solstice of heroes is here and no one is honoring Cayde.
Y/N's well aware that the Solstice was meant to celebrate a new dawn that shone brightly upon their city long ago, but it was also the days where they mourn those they lost in the battle to keep their people safe. Yet it seems no one remembers Cayde and everything that the man did for the city as a Vanguard and for everyone, as a good friend.
Imagine Cayde coming back from a rough mission, him seeing you dancing with her headphones in and him coming over and wrapping his arms your waist and nuzzles his face into your neck. You putting your hand on his hood and pecking his cheek.
this is just a little something, mostly for myself...
No warnings, just some cuteness.
Cayde - 6 (Destiny 1)
The sky was beginning to darken by the time you and your ghost had returned to the tower after a rather easy mission, all you had to do was hand in your mission report to Cayde and you were done, hopefully Cayde was free to, it would be nice to spend some time with him, it had been weeks since you had. You had been so busy lately. After a quick glance out to the city below, you jogged off towards Cayde, with a slight bounce in your step. That quickly changed when the only people you saw were Zavala and Ikora, your heart dropped instantly. Ikora was busy, so you walked over to Zavala, asking when the hunter had gone, but he didn’t seem to know. You were walking back towards the door, thinking to check the Ramen bar when something caught your eye, there was a note with your name on it.
With a raised eyebrow you lifted the note, it was from Cayde, telling you to find him, on the back was a clue of sorts, it didn’t take you long to figure out where to go through it was the north side of the tower, easy enough. Except he wasn’t there. Together with your ghost, you scanned the area only to find another note, leading you to the hanger. Once again, he was nowhere in sight, your ghost scanned the area finding another note with another clue, this was a bit more difficult, but you managed it, heading off towards the main part of the tower again. Specifically, where the tower stuck out most, a note laid on the ground, claiming to be the last one. Reading to simply turn around.
There on the roof sat Cadye, with his feet dangling over the edge and smile appeared on your lips. You watched him for a moment as he swung his about. It looked like he was writing something. He looked quite happy up there. Making your way up there was pretty easy for you.
You popped your head up, on the verge of pulling yourself up completely, only to be met by Cayde’s hand. Reaching out you took hold of him, letting him pull you up. You had barely landed on your feet before Cayde pulled you into a hug spinning around quickly like he was hiding something.
“Close your eyes” he ordered, there was a hint of excitement in his tone. You pulled away eyeing him suspiciously but ended up closing them anyway.
Cayde quickly spun you around again, a little to fast really, it made you dizzy for a moment. With your eyes still closed, Cayde placed his hands leading you forward. Rambling on about not seeing you in a while and all that, bring a smile to your face.
“Aw Cayde did you miss me?, Don’t see why you would though, we talk all the time when I’m away on missions” you played it down, but in reality, you missed him too, you would never admit that though. He would tease you to no end over it.
“Wh-wh-wh, no, no no, it’s nothing like that, it’s just you have, soooo busy I thought I would do something nice because I’m just soo nice you know” Cayde replied,
“If you say so” you teased” by now the two of you had stopped, though his hands were still on your shoulders and your eyes were still closed.
“I do say so” Cayde firmly said, there was humor in his tone.
“So, huh Cayde can I open my eyes now?”
“Oh-oh yes- yes, go ahead” Cayde replied.
You opened your eyes to see two bowls of Spicy Ramen, beside the edge of the building, there was still steam coming off them, something told you he had actually been watching you from the start.
“Shall we?” Cayde asked, leading you onwards. You were smiling broadly.
Cayde and You sat yourselves down, with your feet dangling over the edge. Both your ghosts had settled themselves a little ways off. Letting the two of you have some privacy.
You hadn’t realised how hungry you were until you were tucking into the ramen.
Afterward, Cayde and you remained there for a while, in surprising silence, as much as you loved Cayde’s chatter, no matter how random it could be, it was nice just to enjoy each others company. Though you of the corner of your eye, you could see him fidgeting with his hands, maybe the silence was so nice for him. In fact, you had a feeling his was struggling with sitting still for so long.
As the sky darkened, and the city lights were more prominent, the scene before you just got, more magical looking. You decided to scoot closer, slipping an arm around his, and resting your head on his shoulder, in turn, he rested his head on yours.
“Soooooo” Cayde started, he lasted longer than you had thought he would.
“So” you repeated,
“How was work” his tone was playful.
“Do you actually want a proper report, or are you just making small talk” you laughed.
“Uuuuh, well, the report can wait”
You shared with him some little details of the mission, exaggerating for fun earning witty comebacks from Cayde.
At the end of the night, the two of you walked back to the home you both shared, holding your hand and continuing to talk away, about past missions, with lots of embellishment, as your ghosts floated behind merrily.
Inside, you got a quick, very much needed shower. Returning to find Cayde, sprawled out over the sofa, mumbling away to Sundance and your own ghost, mostly rambling on about himself, but it made you smile.
You quickly, walked over, still drying your hair, Cayde only shimmed over a little, giving you barely enough room to sit, but you managed it, curling up to him, you hadn’t noticed the bottle of wine sitting on the table, it was your favourite. Cadye reached down, pulling out a glass from nowhere and handing it to you, then he turned on the tv, your favourite film was on.
“What is all this?” you asked again, sitting up so you could look at him,
“I, well, I just wanted to do something nice” he stuttered, by the end of it, you were beaming at him. You quickly reached up, placing a kiss on his face, before getting comfortable again.
The rest of the night was spent cuddling, watching movies and drinking wine. You could not of thought of a better way to spend time together.
