"Camillus in battle while Romulus pleads with Jove" or the "Allegory of glory", ceiling fresco in the villa Borghese, Mariano Rossi, 1779.
Rossi's enormous fresco is a wide tapestry of baroque imagination and motifs. The legendary roman general Marcus Furius Camillus is seen breaking the peace treaty with the previously victorious barbarian Senones, led by Brennus, whilst an array of deities and putti fly around the centering Jupiter (Jove, the chief God of the roman pantheon) to give blessings and good tidings upon the romans.
