This is Corfe Castle, home to various notable figures throughout its history. It was originally built by William the Conqueror, and later, King Henry I and King John both resided there. Queen Elizabeth I also stayed at the castle during her reign. In the 17th century, Sir John Bankes and his family lived at Corfe Castle, with his wife, Lady Mary Bankes, famously defending it during the English Civil War. These residents highlight the castle’s significance as both a royal and noble residence throughout the centuries.
