It's obvious things are going poorly when the solution that was suggested mostly as a joke starts seeming like an appealing option. "I think maybe the dementor thing would work."
Fred lets his head fall forward onto the table. It sounds like it hurts, but Draco's not going to ask if he's going to be rude about his totally reasonable proposal.
"Why do you think it work?" George asks, which is why he's Draco's favorite.
He twists around the book he'd been reading and pushes it towards him. "In the 1800s there was a series of experiments to see if dementors could be used to treat mental illness and aggression. Sort of like muggles and their lobotomies and about as ethical."
"Did it work?" George asks, scanning the page.
"No," Draco answers and Fred lifts up his head just to let it drop again. "Unless you categorize memory problems, a lack of motivation, and loss of personality as a success. None of which Harry can afford considering what he's working with."
George doesn't even huff at him. Maybe he needs a nap. "So what about this is compelling to you?"
Draco leans forward to tap about three quarters down on the page. "They did it by sucking out part of their souls."
Fred pushes himself upright. "They did what?"
"Unsurprisingly tearing someone's soul apart doesn't tend to end well for them," Draco continues, "but it shows dementors can be that precise. If they can only consume part of a soul, then surely they can tell the difference between Harry's soul and Voldemort's and only take Scaly Bitch's bit?"
"Maybe," George says, flipping to the back of the book to check the source. That's hot. "But why would a dementor agree to do that?"
"Because we'll give them the rest," he says.
Both the twins pause to look at him. Fred asks, "The rest of what?"
"Voldemort's soul," he says. "Frankly, I'm embarrassed I didn't think of this earlier. Dementors consume and digest souls. We'll give them the rest of the horcruxes to pull the soul bits out of. They get a tasty sort of human soul - something that it's much harder for them to get these days - and we get our little horcrux problem handled. It's a win win."
Neither of them immediately shoot him down which is basically the same thing as agreeing with him.
